Sophisticated Storage

Chests, barrels, controllers, connectors, and upgrades for bulk storage used with Create logistics.

Sophisticated Storage adds tiered chests, barrels, and shulker boxes with upgrades and multiblock-style linking. Most players use it as the physical storage behind a Create logistics network. See Storage setup for Packager patterns and a Stock Ticker.

Storage block types

Limited barrels

Limited barrels expose 1 to 4 slots on the front with higher stack limits than normal chests. Higher tiers increase stack size, not slot count.

  • Right-click the shown item to deposit. Left-click to withdraw.
  • Hold sneak for full-stack moves.

Tiers

Most storage blocks upgrade through copper → iron → gold → diamond → netherite. Each tier adds inventory capacity and upgrade slots. is a common early step before .

Apply tier upgrades in-world by right-clicking the block with the upgrade item (can skip tiers on some upgrade types).

Linking storage together

Storage connectors

join adjacent Sophisticated Storage blocks into one shared inventory. That is how a vertical column of barrels or chests behaves as a single chest for pipes and Packagers.

Controller (optional)

A treats nearby storage as one multiblock:

  • Place storage next to the Controller or to blocks already connected (up to 15 blocks in any direction).
  • Right-click the Controller with an item stack to insert into matching stacks in linked storage.
  • Double right-click to deposit all matching stacks from your inventory.

Use a Controller when you want one GUI for a large room instead of many separate chest faces.

Create logistics

The Controller multiblock is one shared inventory for pipes and Packagers. Attach a to the Controller face, or to / Storage Output / on that network. One Packager + can expose everything linked to the Controller on the Stock Ticker. You do not need a Packager on every chest. See connecting patterns.

Not to be confused with Create’s (Logistics Network).

A Sophisticated Storage Link reaches storage that is not adjacent to the Controller:

  1. Place the link on a storage block face.
  2. Link it to the Controller with a Storage Tool.
  3. The link pulls in that block and chains to touching neighbors (within the Controller’s 15-block range).

Storage Tool

The Storage Tool links blocks to a Controller, locks insertion, and toggles UI overlays (locks, counts, tiers, upgrades). Sneak + scroll to change modes. Right-click a Controller to apply an action to all connected storage.

Storage IO (Controller networks)

These blocks attach to a Controller multiblock, not to individual chest columns:

IO blocks do not chain to neighbors like connectors. They only work on a Controller network you already built.

A Packager on (or Storage Output when you only need requests) is a common Controller-hub pattern: one network registration for the whole room. Connectors suit tight single-item columns. A Controller suits whole storage rooms. Full build order: Storage setup.

Upgrades (overview)

Upgrades slot into storage blocks via GUI or right-click in-world. Common options for automation:

Void, feeding, smelting, crafting table, stonecutter, jukebox, and compression upgrades exist for specialized builds. See in-game JEI for recipes.

Decoration

Chests, barrels, and shulker boxes support main and accent colors (crafting table dyes or a Decoration Table / Paintbrush). Barrels can also take material overlays on top, bottom, and sides. Cosmetic only for logistics, but Paintbrush on a Controller can recolor all linked blocks at once.
