As it stands, streaming copyrighted material is a minor crime, punishable as a misdemeanor. SOPA would have made it a felony, with potential prison time, and monetary fines (added for seasoning one supposes). Well, the Department of Commerce is hard at work making the streaming part of SOPA law.
