I usually ask for a discount on my bill when there is extended downtime or service is inconsistent (packet loss, repeated latency spikes, etc.). I've always gotten a reduction on my bill when I ask for it. Residential internet service may not have business class guarantees, but smart companies don't piss off their customers over small change.
I wish ISPs around here, were that compliant. They'll normally spend about 45minutes arguing about about something they have no idea about. It's just sad really, our ISP advertising double what we're paying for, for triple the price and we're paying for up-to 24mbps, but getting an average of 15-16mbps/d on average and 0.5mbps/u (wish upload was better), but I guess it's not as bad as it could be for €30 a month considering we're right beside an exchange...
So, that's the difference between business and residental class! It seemed odd to me that they charge us $100/100mbits while they're charging $100/5mbps for business class. You get what you pay for, haha
I wouldn't mind if it dropped a little bit, but a tenth is ridiculous, and if their bandwidth throttling doesn't work, they crash our router by spoof packets(essentially a slowloris attack). But of course that isn't illegal...
