The log of what happens while the game launches is too long to post here, so I'll describe it; basically, in step 5/7 and mod 187/187 (GregTech), the log says "If your Log stops here, you were too impatient. Wait a bit more next time, before killing Minecraft with the Task Manager." Except I didn't kill Minecraft with the Task Manager, and it keeps freezing at that point. How can I fix this?
If you just leave it be, it'll "unfreeze" itself, for a lack of a better term, in a while, usually around 5-20 minutes depending on your hardware. How long did you wait before closing it (despite it's frozen status)?
Around 5 minutes. If you'd like to know my specs: Processor: Intel i5-4200M (2.5GHz, 2 cores) Memory: 8GB Graphics: Intel HD Graphics (I'm on a laptop)
It takes about 3-5 minutes on my desktop but ~15-20 minutes on my laptop. Your processor might be a bit underpowered so it may take a long time.
First time? So does it only take forever the first time because it needs to load everything for the first time ever?
It's not our mod. We'd love to remove it but it does give an extra few months of gameplay for those people who invest themselves in it. The mod is sorta open-source so we've considered trying to patch it ourselves but that's a big question mark.
You should definitely consider something with a dedicated GPU. Intel HD Graphics would BARELY pull it off if it's one of the newer ones. I have a laptop as well that's an i7 4712MQ that turbo boosts to 3.12ghz and a 840M and it's having problems in MagiLagi bases or Pathajosh&Co bases. Good luck though !
I'm running the game on a laptop too, it takes always a bit longer on the first time. I normally play a game of rocket league when loading. If you want to speed the loading up, you should indeed get a GPU.
You'll have to wait around 10 minutes when this message pops in the log. Be sure to be plugged on mains, if your laptop is on battery, it could be 20 minutes of waiting (i5 likes to throttle themselves down)
