Thaumcraft is amazing! Build yourself a Thaumomoter and start scanning things. Help's to read the Wiki or you'll never figure it all out.
First, make friends with someone that will let you use their deep dark dimensional portal(2x ore gen!!). Second, Rotarycraft is amazing to start off with, and once you get the hang of it's mechanics can be quite useful. If you go for rotarycraft then you can fairly easily get the bedrock armor, which when you have the full set basically reduces all damage to 1/2 heart (In addition to that a Tcon cleaver when blocking reduces almost all damage by 50%, so 1/2 heart - 50% = 0 hearts damage as damage only goes in 1/2 heart increments.) plus the bedrock sword has sharpness 5 and looting 5 (Yea... no typo, looting 5, really!). The grinder from rotarycraft does 3x instead of 2x like the TE pulverizer and you can advance that when you have the power and technical knowhow to a rotarycraft extractor which is a minimum of 5x ore output. Things like redstone, lapis, and certus quartz have higher output rates per ore, one certus quartz ore can make up to 40 certus crystals using the extractor. I would also highly recommend Big Reactors. I have spent less than 2k iron on my reactor/turbine and pumping out 11k RF/t is no issue at all.
Well Rotarycraft sure sounds fun. I only have a steam dynamo, a pulverizer, and a half-malfunctional smeltery at the moment =( Thanks for the tips though!
I have a enhanced portal set up in the deep dark, If you (or anyone really) would like the code just PM me on here. Try to go a distance from my portal and mine/set up your own as soon as you can.
I heard the deep dark is like a mining dimension where there's a ton of mobs yet a ton of ores. If I were to go through it, what supplies would I have to bring? Also, how do I craft the portal to get there?
The portal is mighty expensive but I have one you can use that uses a portal from enhanced portals 2 (look the mod up, its super nice) You would need lots of torches/light source, because the darkness hurts you, but it is well worth it because the ore gen is crazy (look out for the holes to the void... they are nasty!)
If you do indeed start ThaumCraft, make yourself a hypergenetic nitor. Its basically a torch that follows you around when inside of your inventory. Like Nolan said, start with RotaryCraft. It's different, and provides huge rewards. Use Mekanism. As you progress, work your way through all the mods and become a master.
Thanks for the feedback, guys. Currently I'm exploring Tinker's Construct. Anyone have tips about that?
Damn, I never knew about the bedrock sword, that's some handy info. Also the grinder does like 6x, wat
We have a public extractor setup now for people, go to spawn and walk follow the path west. Its at -300
