Alice and things

    There's some important information regarding Alice:
    • For the first week or so, things are going to change as we figure things out. With new mods and a new version of Minecraft, as well as a new server that we are using, there are, to say the least, many new problems to deal with. Slot sizes may change, mods may come and go, and other changes will be in the near forseeable future.
    • We hope to more or less fix block lag increasingly better over the coming days. It is caused by many things though -- each object in the game (an entity or a block) takes up a finite and sometimes variable sized time to "think", and when the time consumed by all of these items in one server "tick" exceeds 1/20th of a second, there is block lag. Fixing block lag is like balancing a budget -- there are not often many "big pieces of the pie" to cut out, but rather it's a process of figuring out which small pieces to remove.
    • Because we're in a kind of "beta period," the slot size is expected to vary. Unfortunately we will likely not keep it at the usual 40 until we believe that we can handle a larger concurrent number of players. For you, it measn that you may not be able to get on when the server is full. We're considering different things to alleviate this issue if we are not able to optimize the server sufficiently, including starting a secondary Alice server.
    • Currently, the server tick rate is averaging closer to 15-20 ticks per second as opposed to the previous 1-5 ticks per second, so we're making progress! The nominal rate is 20 ticks per second.
    Please note that Mo's Creatures has been removed for the time being because its large piece of the "processing time budget" that we have for each 1/20th of a second for a server tick.

    Edit: Mobs have been temporarily disabled until we better fix the block lag. The slot limit is back to 40 for the time being. You'll be able to buy spawn eggs at a shop in spawn.

    Thank you for the removal of mo creatures. Those werewolves made nighttime impossible =/

    Yeah, A friend and I are getting disconnection errors when trying to login to are area

    Mobs have been temporarily disabled until we better fix the block lag. The slot limit is back to 40 for the time being. You'll be able to buy spawn eggs at a shop in spawn.

    It is probably something at or near our base. I was working on a project table just before the reboot to up the player limit to 30.

    I could reset your spawn location to spawn, but I don't know what the problem is at the moment.

    Actually, delete Mo's Creatures (starts with D in the filename) And try.

    That would work. Would it be possible to delete some of the items at our base? Those project tables are buggy in this version. Also there is a computer under our MFSU that could be a problem. not sure what code it is running...

    I don't know if you have Thaumcraft on Alice or not but I know the chunk auras can build up ALOT of lag since they are always changing and don't seem to unload when a player leaves the area. I also know that light is a HUGE cause of lag but I'm not shur if thats something that is fixable but some of the mods add new blocks that give off light/glow and that could be hurting things. One last thing you might try since you wanna use Mo creatures is drop the mob spawn rate by ALOT and re-ballance the spawn table since some mobs should be rarer then others but seem to have the same spawn rate and when you have players all over the place spawning mobs like mad lag will build fast.

    Chunk generation was never a problem in the previous alice even with a lot of people. Why is it now, sk? Curious o.o

    The mob spawn rate and rate was changed, a lot, and tested. Vanilla mo'creatures Is actually terrible.
    Anyway it has been disabled for now.
