City [1.3 Alice] New Vespucci

    We are building a massive city. It comes with an advanced infrastructure, free public services, a promotion system and lots of other stuff. Interested? Read the spoilers to find out more and post in this thread to apply!

    This Thread is where we discuss everything about the city. I will update the first 2 posts according to the project status. Feel free to ask questions or post and discuss your ideas!

    ===3 Levels===
    The general layout of the city will be 3 rings, representing the 3 classes of citizens: Commoners, privileged citizens and guild members. Based on ones rank, citizens will gain certain rights and privileges, as well as differently sized plots to build in. The rings will differ in architecture, materials and ground level/height.

    Outer ring/downtown
    - Requirements: Apply and you will most likely be accepted.
    - Plot: Small House (2 Chunks)
    - Height: 64-96 (32)
    - Architecture*: Stone brick/slab, wood, avenues
    - Free Energy: LV (32 EU/t)
    - Mining world rights: May use the public mine
    - Market: Building materials, low tier machines and machine parts.
    - Seaport

    Inner ring/uptown
    - Requirements: Appointed by a guild member for rendering outstanding services to the city
    - Plot: Big house with garden (12 Chunks)
    - Height: 96-160 (64)
    - Architecture*: Marble, water, canals (similar toVenice)
    - Free Energy: MV (128 EU/t)
    - Mining world rights: May build BC quarries (or use the public mine)
    - Market: Rare materials, high tier machines/parts
    - Airship docks

    Core/villa quarter
    - Requirements: Appoionted by the guild for being awesome.
    - Plot: Huge mansion with park around it (??? Chunks)
    - Height: 160-Top (96)
    - Architecture*: Basalt, Lava, Expensive Materials
    - Free Energy: HV (512 EU/t)
    - Mining world rights: May build frame quarries (or BC quarries or public mine)
    - Guild hall. This is the center of the city. Made from only the most expensive materials, it has only purpose: To brag about how filthy rich we are.

    *Architecture refers only to the public domain, not player owned houses. Should we limit players to certain materials, depending on the district? Discuss!

    The Guild owns and manages the city. Their tasks include:

    - Accepting new members and assigning Plots to them.
    - Planing Public builds and managing/distributing the needed materials
    - Maintaining the factories, power plants and other machines that are not accessible to the public
    - Maintaining and controling the robot fleet
    - Treasury/storage management, marketplace
    - Legislation
    - Jurisdiction

    - Terraforming/Leveling, laying down a solid stone layer at 64

    ===Planing===

    To prepare for building, we are currently bulldozing the city area. While this will take a few weeks, we need to settle on a general layout for the city. A Bitmap where 1px = 1 chunk should do the trick.

    This is a design I made (8x zoomed so you can actually see something):

    lol this sounds like a manga I read once who had a city like this, but just curious how big is it going to be? (since its you sed i've no doubt its going to be massive)

    But, none-the-less this sounds so awesome so I'm in as well.

    Count me in :D, Also some Suggestions:

    -Maybe in each villa you should dedicate special chests that are linked to the on demand building factory floor, so the most awesome residents can setup their on-demand item(s ?) and send/receive items straight away from their own home!

    - How would you keep the citizens separated? How would they move to the upper floors etc. (Maybe have frame elevator system, I like frame elevators :D ?)

    - Restaurants: You could have individual restaurants that automatically restock and sell specific items, A soup restaurant for example ?

    There is a lot of things we need to plan and decide, both, major and minor issues. Right now the most important things imho are to map out some kind of law/ruleset and to plan the terraforming process. Im gonna use the reserved post for precise plans, a to-do list and other organisational stuff.

    Might that manga be wolfs rain by any chance? :D The current sketch of the city (which im about to upload in a few minutes) has about the same area as a circle, 82 chunks (1312 blocks) in diameter.

    I like that idea [edit] Why not make this into a post office? Not one that uses Forestry mail but with pipes and stuff.
    Im gonna upload a map of the city (just a rough sketch) how I imagine it. If you take into consideration how the different rings have a different ground level (64, 96, 160) the separation becomes quite obvious.

    On the outside there will be mostly stairs, but if th lower rings reach undeneath the higher rings (which they will most likely do in some places) we should add elevators, too. DrBrille and me talked about it today and we think that the guild hall should reach all the way down to 64, if not even deeper. Elevators are a must there.

    Thats exactly what were doing, see "Marketplace".

    When you have chosen your builders/participants you might want to consider getting everyone on the SKCraft Team Speak and arranging everything from there... we could also discuss current issues and such....

    right now we need to collect ideas and map a general plan of action. i will talk to drbrille tomorrow and we might post some things we thought of regarding the very beginning. using the ts server is definitely a good idea. im gonna ask some admin to make me a personal chanel so we can use it for this project.

    The town sketch looks cool, but if this is the final size then the guild plots are just to big. In my opinion the guild plots must not be larger then 20 chunks.

    The law: there must be some rules about power gen. Lets say if every1 would make a big solar array and some mill farms, the city will experience to much lag. So maybe rules about the size of solar arrays/watermill farms. You could also ban the massfab out of the city so no1 would make crazy big watermill farms.

    Free energy... AWESOME. but will that work on a very big city (eu loss per block, energy draining by city members, etc)

    the project looks promising. keep it up;)

    Its sed, he'll probably make like another 100 mfsu's and give everyone and make sure sure they only get like 10mil over idk 24hrs? idk.

    Sed and I have been very busy planning it all out, and it's coming along great.

    The guild plots are being made smaller as we speak, but hey, we want big plots :p

    We thought of the power gen problem and are writing rules for that too. There will probably be alot of rules on that, with the main one being no nuclear at all in the 2 outer rings.

    The free energy is no problem, just leave that to us :)
