Installing 64-bit OS (and java) fixed the problem for me, mostly because it can now use extra 1GB of ram that 32-bit system couldn't.
Too bad Switches got removed. It was hard to accidentally hit them. Quite useful in "dense" areas. They also looked pretty good. Re-add ?
