    [h2]Java 8 Available[/h2]
A new major version of Java -- Java 8 -- recently came out in the last week. Some people have reported that the game runs better in it. You can download Java 8 now from Oracle's site.

After you install Java 8, you may want to force the launcher to use it. The launcher tries to detect the latest version of Java, but you can manually set the version of Java in the options.

Mac OS X users can set Java priority in Java Preferences.

Im running Java 8 since yesterday on Win7 and Mint 15, both 64 bit. Works like a charm, no problems.
One issue i had with java 7 (fps drops from 70 to 9 fps while mekanism machines are running) still happens though.
Still figuring that out, will probably make a thread about that later today.

I will test this really soon!

For those arch fans out there!

    Code:
    yaourt -S jdk

Edit: Menu seems better. I tried logging in, experienced terrible lag and crashed(Connection reset I think). Might try again later!

    Big Update:

Tried Java 8 on my windows 7 desktop. Minecraft's fps has dropped from 60 to 20. And I am crashing with the same error message.

It is NOT playable for me with java 8!

Any logs? Certain players are having difficulty with FPS drops after the update, so it may be the update, may be java 8.

Personally I have had FPS stay about the same, but the memory issues I had with java 6 and 7, along with the GC lag spikes o' doom are gone. Some people have had an increase in FPS and others had them drop.

I think I will make a post for players with FPS issues to report in with a survey to find the common denominator between them, so it will be easier to get to the root of the issue.

You know that is funny you say the memory issues are gone. I checked the logs, it complains about heap size(Out of RAM). Deleted them because I thought they were outdated and just cached. Minecraft was taking to long so I got rid of my 128x texture pack. It starts up and runs; no crashes.

Turns out it must have been running out of ram. But I haven't this an issue with Java 7. And in Java 8 I had to drop my render distance to normal instead of far because of framerate issues.

I will test java 7 tomorrow.

Mac's no longer have Java Preferences.
I'll try and find a make-shift option for Mac users. :)
