The Plan: Create a fully featured and functional in-game Monopoly. This includes the board, property management, buying, selling, fines, trading, dice rolling and displays, and a high level of interactivity. This project will require substantial wiring and potentially coding with the in-game computer systems. This thread is for the moment primarily for brainstorming and planning how to actually accomplish this. At the moment some cursory brainstorming between me, Tiffany, and some people in game has resulted in this: The Board: - Colored lights to indicate ownership, (select a color at the start of the game for yourself) - Transition of some sort (pistons or light?) to indicate when a property is mortgaged. * Properties - Colored lights to indicate ownership, switched out with pistons underneath the property space. - Indicator lights/blocks, controlled with wire or piston, for mortgaged/unmortgaged. - Ring over the board with lights to indicate apartments/hotels per property. - Signs or a display with price information, costs, rent. * Dice Roll - Button on each space (or a master button controlled by the game master?) to roll the dice, located on a display, results generated randomly, 1-6 on two separate displays, or 1-12 on one display. * Free Parking - Either have a dispensor that dispenses a specific sum of money every time a player lands, or have a communal pot that builds from fines and taxes. --> Transparent chest located on the Free Parking space, pipe-fed from taxable locations, where players can put in their fees and it will be dumped into the Free Parking chest, and if you land on it, you can take everything out of the chest. Money ideas: - Colored wool representing various denominations of money, carried in inventory. - Some sort of interactive display/counter system. - 3rd party player to manage the Bank. The Cards: - 1.3 adds Books to the game, so can potentially randomly dispense a particular book to some sort of overseer/banker player, who wouldn't be an active participant but a game master of sorts. The Arena: - Arena either around, or over the game board. With glass allowing people to look down on the field. Suggestions, assistance, anything would be welcome. We want this to be a success, and involve a lot of people, and be used to play the game.
We'll probably pick this one back up once 1.3 comes out on Alice, until then we can use the thread to discuss how things should be done and post prototyping pictures and such. I like the idea of a raised M for mortgage.
