Two days ago Kirarara, KontrolKiteal, and myself started working on our new project! We abandoned our old town, Dromund Kaas, for a new more secluded environment. It is called: The Works The Works is going to be a massive underground mega-facility hidden entirely from the surface world. It will be completely self sustainable when we finish making it. I'll post screenshots as we make progress if anyone is interested in seeing it. Features: - Farms for every single type of fruit, vegetable, tree, and spice. - Processing and storage for all of the fruits, vegetables, trees, and spices. - "Cafe Diem" a fully functional restaurant featuring every available food in the game. - Solar Panel Production Facility. - Material Storage & Sorting Facility. - UU Mater Generation Facility. - Much much more... Screenshots: - Floor #1: The Greenhouse
I'm not sure I even want to continue it anymore. The map is getting reset in a month or two and it will probably take us that long to complete the darn thing. =( Here's the blueprint for the farm: Here's the one we were going to use, but decided against for symmetry reasons: The current design specs have it being 107 x 90 x 8. We're in the process of digging out 78,000 blocks to get the framework for the farm. Lava is a major issue =(
Aww thats sad to hear, but I doubt it will be reset in that short a time because I don't think the mods would be ready by then (coming from the 1.0-1.1 updates -.- ). What are you using anyway?, just by hand or stuff like fillers?
We're digging out a 107 x 90 x 2 space by hand (mining lasers, diamond drill hand powered) and then doing fillers for the remaining 6-8 height.
We're gonna build it even with the inevitable wipe. Does anyone have any efficient ideas on how to automate the entire process of farming the crops?
Update: We finished clearing out the entire area! Used hand work to clear out the bottom 2 layers so that it wouldn't lag as the drops hit the ground, since if you don't you can't collect the first 2 layers and end up accumulating three layers before you can collect. After that it was simple filler-frenzy <3 KontrolKiteal, Kirarara, tiffykoros, Paulenski all worked on this bit. We filled in the floor with double-slabs, it's still a work in progress as you can tell from the pics. We still need to extend the wall by about 2-5 on either side to allow buffers for pipes and stuff.
And that's just the seed-based plants. All the tree plants need their own little (lol, huge) plots. Going to need to make hundreds of Deployers. :C It's also just one floor. There's 8 other floors, with the top being solar collection, and that's slowly growing in size as we add more. Our storage floor is just getting started, and I finished our materials processor machine late yesterday. It's high volume, designed to handle direct input from multiple quarries and also manually fed materials, without jamming. It also is passive, in that the system is not active unless there is material in the system being processed, and for a few minutes after. Probably not as efficient as it could be, but it was built on the fly. *-*
Finally finished putting down the flooring, filling in holes in the roof and the sides, and lighting the entire thing up.
Hey tiffy, when/if you get to making the solar panel production facility, would you mind if I took a look while your building it?, its because i've been wanting to make one but I could never find any god examples that didn't involve Tekkit, so i've been pondering how to actually make one.
I was about to suggest you could look at the one I made in Dromund, but I remembered I dismantled it. :C It's a simple enough concept, the way I did it involved sorting machines to deliver exactly the amount of material needed for each component to Buildcraft Auto-crafting tables. Or, I should say, to chests adjacent to those, which then extracted the components, moving them down the line to another series of crafting tables that would assemble the base components into the final product, and then return it all to a chest. It's a little more complex, but I suppose you can watch... I don't know. I don't really want the location of the base to be known. :C I can take screenshots and annotate them. The process was not entirely automatic, in that you had to fill chests with the raw materials, which were then retrieved in exactly the amounts needed for one panel per execution of the fabricator. No waste.
hmmm ok, its funny cause I was just about to start prototyping one but i forgot that anime night was on so I stopped, the way I was going to have it was a quarry was feeding the resources as well as a rubber farm and *cough*sand gen*cough* feeding sand, but i have yet to do that. I don't know why the idea of making one put me off, I think it was because the ones people made were so large and complicated, but if you did let me see I wouldn't tell, I keep secrets . But I think I want to try and go for making a "near-automatic" solar factory , nothing fancy but 'hopefully' very practical, and any resources that aren't used are stored in chests simple xD.
Created(ing?) a factory where you just drop stuff in a chest, push a button, and everything gets processed how you want it. Each module takes up a 7x3x5 space, not including the power transmission lines which connect from the back. The timers that tick the retrievers are setup such that they shutoff within 20 seconds of the last item exiting the system. Nice and clean.
Hey Kira, is there a spot for another person? I would love to help, as I dont have my own home yet...
