    Vincent will be resetting very shortly for Minecraft 1.3. Until then:
    • We need to build a new spawn. News about will come today or within a few days.
    • We need a theme for spawn too. It looks like we're going for a wasteland possibly.
    • We can experiment with new gameplay. For example, we can do a wasteland where being out in the sun hurts you, or all rain is acid rain that damages you. Suggest ideas here! You only have a few days to get these ideas in!

    Here are a few
    • the 2 you mentioned. every third rain is acid rain maybe ?.. waste lands would be that weird cow shroom dirt, netherrack and Lava maybe ?, some mix of stuffs like those
    • Disable pvp. It's just not fun and only creates trouble and arguments
    • Dungeons should have increased mob spawn rate.
    • GO TO THE MOOOON. special shuttle at spawn. takes you to the moon.
    • Moon is just the minecraft world but only made out of stone, and maybe more ores there
    • Going to the moon would cost some iron bars. If that will still be the currency.
    • Moon would be the new mining world :), Kinda

    I think the spawn should be an abandoned town that was about to celebrate the new year with their annual "New Years Creeper Festival". There will be a giant wool-made creeper statue in the center that was rigged to explode like a pinata, spewing confetti and stuff everywhere, but it never did because that night there was a nuclear disaster or something that changed the world forever.

    Underneath this town is where you will actually spawn, in the sewer systems where people have begun their new lives. The surface should have an abandoned creepy feeling to it, overrun with vines, destroyed decorations, etc. The sewers should give you a vibe that civilization is holding on by the edge of it's teeth.

    Since we'll most likely be building underground, I think that food or animal product (leather, meats, eggs, wool?) could be a decent currency since it will be moderately harder to get than normal. Speaking of which how will we get animals if the rain/sun are deadly?

    Starter items should definitely include a watch.

    Then again I could see a server like this being very short lived due to the ugliness of building underground/only being able to see your above ground stuff during the darkness for the less than creative people.

    These thing will only affect spawn right cause it would be annoying is these would affect ones bases.

    Well. This will be the new vincent. Map reset. So. your bases would have to be underground. or have roofs :S

    What gretar said, but give acid rain a random chance, and have it forecasted in advance by the MapPad.

    I guess we should have some kind of building that forces the new players to read or discover some info/rules.

    Sometime I saw a server that you starts in the middle of a maze and the maze guides you until a locked room, like playground, with some rules, currency, commands, plugins, and so on... Then you would be able to reach the main island, by minecart! :D

    In that server, you must wait for an op to give you a minecart, but that's a little bit annoying and we can find some way! :p

    Edit:
    Or a long tunnel with some signs in it, so you run/minecart to reach the other side and read some fast signs, that doesn't force you to stop running before reading! :D

    I actually came up with alot of ideas for a Wasteland RPG server. Most may not apply here but here they are anyways. Note: I am aware some of these require a lot of work, but I feel it would be beneficial in the long run.

    For example, we can enable PvP and have a few large factions/clans/groups where it is possible to start wars, back stab, etc. To prevent the same people from being killed over and over in a faction, everyone gets to pick a new nickname every single time they die to keep anoymity. Users cannot have the same nickname and once a person dies, their nickname is unavailable for a fairly large amount of time.

    Death should also be something you try to avoid. However, I am against the idea of permabanning players on death since its too harsh. I say a 30 minute to one hour ban is sufficient enough that people will try to avoid dying. This would also make it harder for people to figure out who is who with the nickname idea mentioned above.

    Also, given that it is a wasteland server it is probably post-apocalyptic. This means we have some of the mods that Alice to make it more industrial has like RP, IC2, etc. However, some of the mods wouldn't work for this for the fact that they are too easy to start off with. In addition, recipes will have to be changed to make it harder to obtain items/blocks like pipes, the RP computer, etc that make the game too easy for what wastelands would be. We may also retexture most of the mods to make it have more of a wasteland feel.

    I also have an idea for a wasteland mod which would put in alot of scrap items and ruined buildings into the game to encourage scavenging. This would allow us to also make recipes in the game that require some scraps such as a Monitor in RP would require an electron tube piece.

    Lastly, the environment is trying to kill you. Acid rain, radiated areas, more hostiles, and a need to drink water is just part of it. We can also add areas like ruins which have security that can do several things to try and kill you such as poison gases (perhaps potions?) and laser guns.

    I realize we probably won't implement all/most of these. However, I did try to account for many things if we ever made a wastland server so we could try implementing some of them here.

    I like the ideas above! But i dont think mods should be on vincent. Maybe some new recipes for some extra stones, sponge (moon) bowls etc. Also make it really survivally, maybe harder to find resources and perhaps a need for teamwork (dont know how this could br implemented, but a thing to think about).

    Well. This would just be silly actually. If players cant read the Rules on the website, then they shouldn't be playing on this
    server. And i know alot of people already don't read the rules

    Whitelist application should have an area where they have to write the rules in. A link should be given to a rules page, where (if they copy-paste) it includes some nonsense (or a small question) mid-post so you can tell if they actually read it or not.

    Also, rare-ish oasis-like areas would be nice with green grass/trees/water/etc. Nice place to find wood early on.

    Something I forgot to add, Grass wouldn't spread due to radiation or something which would make cows and stuff harder to find. Basically grass could only be made using bone meal on dirt with a chance of failure, or bone meal dirt next to grass for less chance for failure. Grass could only be found in oasises or certain ruins.

    All of these ideas are amazing! Iv'e also come up with a few.
    -When creepers explode the particles could be green (Toxic) and the explosion posions you (Maybe the creeper drops a posion splash potion upon death)
    -Since its wasteland some (Or all) of the clouds could be green.
    -And also some radiated chunks/areas that would damage you if you go near/in them.
    This is all the ideas I got for now. Ill probably think of some more tho!;)

    -maby some craters can be randomly scatterd around the world.

    -Zombies bites can sometimes be toxic and getting you poised or infected.

    -lastly sometimes the air in some areas can be polute killing flowers and trees.

    maybe the affects should only happen to monsters like making them stronger and making spawners spawn more. but the land should not be affected since this will affect builds and bases. also balkons weapons mod should be added since monsters will be stronger.

    Alot of these ideas require client-side mods. Is Vincent going modded (aside from server-side mods)?

    If we end up staying with the wasteland theme, we could have so many good mods/plugins.

    I definitely agree with tiffykoros on the spawn idea of starting underground, but instead of just sewers, kind of go for a Fallout type of feel, with the whole vault thing, except more original.

    For the acid rain and burning sun, I would think that doing both would be a bit of over kill, as you would rarely be able to go outside. I would suggest just doing one, preferably acid rain, but have it be a random chance of it happening, also try and make it so that hostile mobs aren't affected by the rain, and possibly make it so the rain periods are shorter that normal.

    I also like gretar's idea of going to the moon, although it's not quite realistic in my opinion. No offense gretar.

    Although it's unrealistic, I would say have two or three factions that players can join upon entering the server. One could be a peaceful/farming faction and one could be a hostile raider faction. If it's possible to code it in, have it so that the factions could use the chunk claimer from Alice to just show what all the factions have in their control, not protecting it though, and the land is claimed using something like 5 iron ingots per chunk or something more expensive. But this would require constant input and participation from players to work out well.

    Hopefully this could be done server side, so we can keep Vincent as vanilla as possible.

    I really like the idea of a Wasteland server, although I guess there is still a need for a vanilla client, i think having a modded one for the idea would make it so much better.

    Yea it's a nice idea but Vincent is not a faction server the idea of changing a few things is just to make SURVIVAL harder but still a great idea.
