I would like to request a change from Mumble to TeamSpeak3. These are a few of the reasons: Microphone volume control (How can Mumble not have this!). The ability to adjust the volume of specific users locally, so if they can not fix their mic you can adjust for it. The ability to require push-to-talk. Much better channel creation options. Whisper lists. Number 2 is really important as volume normalization can only do so much and some people on Mumble are almost inaudible. Number 3 would be really nice. In my experience must users who use voice activation hot mic a lot. The push-to-talk requirement can be applied to specific groups like un-registered users.
You should use the system volume control. Most of the time, all mic problems can be fixed by running the Audio Wizard. If someone can hear themselves properly during the Audio Wizard, all others should hear them properly too. Other cases can be a person wispering, which means they should speak up a little or a bad mic, in which case volume control won't help. If someone is using voice activation, you can always ask them to run the Audio wizard again if it's a settings problem such as hearing them type, or alternatively you can simply local mute them. Mumble actually supports full fledged ACL, it's up to the server owner on how to use them. Mumble has this feature too, it is hidden under the shortcut settings as Whisper/Shout. This'll allow you to whisper to a list of channels or a list of users.
I think the reason no-one has been on it is because of tests/finals and what-not cause I have my final exams this week so thats why i mentioned it.
Mumble is like if you handed a Chinese engineer Teamspeak and told them to copy it, it works but it's just not as good. All for Teamspeak, it's the standard for most gamers now. Telling people to adjust their system settings when the program lacks the ability to do something is just further evidence of the issues with Mumble itself.
That doesn't mean that nothing is better. Actually it's exactly the opposite, If your system settings are wrong, it is not a fix to try to fix that in the program, the fix is to change the system settings.
Mumble definitely isn't. My systems settings are fine. You're missing the point here, this isn't about personal settings, it's the settings of the other users. One user may be ridiculously loud, and another will inherit the earth he's so meek. And you can't do anything about it because mumble doesn't offer local volume for individual users.
One of the benefits of mumble is that if somebody is too meek, they're too meek for everyone. This is not solved by changing the volume locally, this should be fixed on their end. Due to normalization, Too loud is only relative to the most meek person.
Unfortunately, for me, it can't volume can't be fixed on my end as i use the Mumble iPhone app but it just got updated with push-to-talk.
did you try using a bluetooth headset?, or placing your phone different? (BTW: mumble for iPhone is free, while TS3 is $5)
Are you really trying to spin that as a benefit? Seriously? This is not a benefit it's a missing feature. There's no excuse for not having local volume control. None, Null, Zero. And? No offense to gk but using voip on your phone while playing on a laptop or desktop is rather silly to begin with. Teamspeak three has better channel organization, better text chat support, better sound options, sound quality levels assigned by rooms so you can have a main channel with SUPER HIGH QUALITY (thanks di.fm), and other low priority channels with lower quality to prioritize bandwidth, and a better(customizeable) gui and soundpack. IF you wanna keep trying to defend mumble for being an emaciated, barebones, under developed program who's only thing going for it is low bandwidth then go ahead, but you're wrong. You're literally saying: "this fixie bike is better than this 10 speed." Enjoy pedaling uphill on your fixie.
If i can get my hands on a bluetooh headset, i could on a new microphone. Yes, i have placed my phone differently which according to the people i chat with, does little. I can't get to the store to get a new microhone, i get that suggesstion toomanytimes Yes, of course it's a little silly but i make use of what i got. Why not when "there's an app for that"?
