I have compiled a list of changes and mods. The idea is to make it tech, and new. Simple mods such as ironchests, jabba and mabye chisel could be written from scratch to ensure the smallest amount of mods loading and possibly causing lag. pena.ga/1HHs4ep Ideas and suggestions welcome.
A lot the nerfs aren't for lag reasons. They are to push players into using new mods, since the pack is smaller. Things like tubes are usually underused anyway.
I only use tubes ! Also, jetpacks make lagg by allowing users to explore fast. Still, that changes really really strikes me mad because I can't build large shit conveniently.
I would like to try with them disabled because they just always seemed to op. Like, railcraft is useless, paths up mountains aren't needed, distances aren't that important etc. That also allows the world borders to be closer, without the server feeling too small.
The server would still feel massive to me if it was 10% of its current size. All these kids here making a beeline straight for the worldborder and going "too small mang" ... I would like to see railcraft get more uses and and addition of greg's stargates. Fun fact: Greg T wants to add stargates to GregTech. He has already added Naquadah, Naquadah Generators, and Zero Point Modiles!
Well you already asked me to test this elsewhere, so I looked this up now. >Disable all forms of pipes other than tubes Good idea. Never used Tubes but they seem to be based on Redpower's tubes which I always loved. Maybe I'll have to think about item transport again instead of just slapping EnderIO stuff down. Although I really like EnderIO because of its great channel system and the ability to put RF, item, and liquid transport all in the same block. >Disable jetpack I will totally hate this at first but I can deal with it. I'll have to make a flat build with basements then. >Disable all forms of tree harvesting other than steves carts WTF are you serious. I mean, I like steve's carts as much as the next guy but they're so slow. People would make 20 cart farms which would probably lag the server more than one big MFR farm, and take up a lot more space. And upgrading them feels unnecessary - I personally never used anything but diamond, no Galgadorian or whatever it's called, because diamond already had tons of durability. I'd put a few diamonds in every other IRL day and done. Boring. I'd rather slap down an MFR farm and be done instead of being forced to use SC2. Maybe there's something more interesting we could do with farming. >Big Reactors Apart from AE2 and MFR there are no mods which actually use RF. Nobody will ever make anything larger than a 5x5 reactor because nobody will use all that power. At least include Mekanism or other RF-hungry mods so we can actually make use of a big reactor apart from MFR laser drills. There are very few mods in this pack and pretty much no alternatives to any given mod, so the endgame will always be to make a bigger reactor and more laser drills.
Carpenter blocks only cause a bit of client FPS lag, no server lag. If your PC isn't from before 2005 you'll be fine with using them.
Progress has been made! With the ideas of Ben, me , and the rest of you we now have a mod list! Configs come next! Spreadsheet P.S. The game launches, people seem to forgotten that we no longer worry about item or block IDs!
No, in fact we replaced Applied Energetics with Logistics Pipes on purpose. People are talking about having a 'classic' modpack from 1.4.7 or so. How ever we loose many modern function with this. This takes special care, we want to change the end game and make it harder. Nerfing recipes(Gregtech) just annoys most players, so we need a different approach. Talking with Ben this pack would have the following changes: The world would be only 5k blocks by 5k blocks No forms of flight (As in jetpacks, blocks that throw you into the air are fine) Only teleportation to Spawn and Home (Maybe not even to spawn) BC and Tubes will be the only forms of pipes allowed, in true 1.4.7 spirit. All forms of interfaces will be removed from logistics pipes. All items must be in chests or barrels. (May add ender chests and tanks) No chunk loading outside of the mining world. AFK players will be tp'ed to spawn, they can just teleport home however. AFK will count as not moving or interaction within 5 min AFK checks, at a set interval, or at vote (see point bellow), all players must answer a super simple captcha (What is 1+3?) or they will be considered afk, to prevent bots. Community vote for reboot / afk checks Most MFR machines will be disabled No unbreakable items (Unstable ingots for example) MORE CHANGES TO COME These changes are to: Make the server less focused on end game Get people to use more mods Get people to not use 'lazy' mods like ae2, they must build their whole system Automated systems should assist the player, the game should be completed by players, not the game itself. Moving AFK players allows them to still see chat, but unloads the chunks at their bases. Small world allows players to actually use railcraft Small world also means that if two players were to load say (making up this number) 10 chunks around them in a circle, and X number of chunks overlap, the server actually loads less chunks. Lack of teleporting to other players (possibly even to spawn) encourages using railcraft. Lack of flight encourages alternative forms of transportation, such as railcraft. Lack of interfaces makes players do the work, and get items from their chests! Funky locomotion allows for frame quarries, and other self made automated systems. Minimal mods means more thinking by the players Minimal mods means even players with 1GB of ram, integrated graphics, or poor internet connection, may be able to play (Cannot make promises, but hopes are high) EDIT: Buildcraft is not meant to be the main mod, logistics pipes requires it though.
ProjectRed has a system similar to Applied Energistics. I tried it out on an Attack of the B-Team server once. Though it is (EDIT: WAY more expensive and tedious) and not as versatile as AE, you can still make a superinventory and request/pull from it.
