It shouldn't actually be that much of an issue, chunks are loaded in quite a big radius around the player (if you've ever seen an OPIS chunk load map you'll see what I mean), and people just need to keep things they want loaded while offline inside a 3x3 or 5x5 chunk area.
However, if you walk away from your base,so only half is loaded and only half your pipes are loaded, items fly everywhere.
http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/ptweaks-remove-all-server-lag/ Found this on /r/feedthebeast, not sure if it's even usable for Alice. Thought I should share anyway, perhaps it works.
My 2 cents on this: Nowadays people have stopped using buildcraft for stuff because it is so much harder to work with in comparison to the go-easy, go-convenient mods like thermal expansion. Why bother with pipes when you can do 10.000.000 tesseracts at virtually no cost? (that transport items/fluids/energy, lossless, cross-dimension, over infinite distances, without maintenace required) Back in the very old alice builds options to teleport produce and stuff around weren't very plentiful, thus limiting the people to constructing smaller and more efficient bases, to avoid pipe fuckups. A thing such as a loop in RP or BC pipes used to be real bad, now with EnderIO, you can line your entire base up on one line of pipes. Problems result from this. Not sure what could be done about all of it either.
hey @sk89q, I just walked across this post during a check up on modded minecraft servers. While I didn't read all the posts here and are not aware of the current alice mod list a small note and offer. We have got a few 1.7 packs stable (in terms of modded minecraft) over and over again. Maybe we have had the same issue you have (though it being many). In case you are interested I would offer you to look into details you provide me and let you know our discoveries and possible custom fixes. Ofc I can't promise anything, but we have a daily peak of around 80-100 players on 1.7 packs and for example only one crash today. Maybe we had the same/similar issues and can provide you patches or intel.
in case this is related to my reply, well sk89q knows me. (in other words the only thing that is spam here is your post)
sk89q knows me as well, and you're the one with the Wall-o'-text. From my experience SK will not accept offers from other players, he prefers to manage everything by himself.
Yeah, I'm the same way. I want to be in charge of stuff and I hate if people do stuff differently than I do. This is also why I don't take basemates when playing Minecraft. And why I don't do any big project aside from ingame things anymore, because I always end up doing everything alone.
So I take it you aren't interested in digging out a giant hole But it doesn't matter cause path did it using magic lol
Well, my offer stands. I'm not quite sure if you did understand me right, however who cares as it isn't directed at you. Points being: 1. I'm not a player 2. I'm not offering to take care of the issues -> I only offer to give intel and in case of a fix we have, provide it if wanted or explain how we solved it
