Could someone critique this build? It's the first computer I'll ever build. My budget is under $750 USD. I already have a monitor and mouse. EDIT: And I will get a keyboard.
You have zero excuse for not having a better graphics card. Get a better graphics card. R9 290, or if you make some changes, a gtx 970. You need a better power supply. I also have not heard a lot about that company, you might want to try a power supply by EVGA, at least 500Watts. Are you going to get an OS? If you can survive with linux it will save you 100$. You may want a different case that supports bigger graphics cards. Edit: Browsed reddit and found this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wdtpNG
Pretty much everything Pengawin said. But I'll add You're better off going with an i5-4xxx series CPU If you do go with a 4xxx you'll want a motherboard with a different chipset. (e.g. H97) The build you linked didn't include any RAM, just fyi You could get an 840 EVO SSD instead for nearly half the price The graphics card, is fairly weak. Listen to Pengawin. The Antec PSU is a fairly common cheap power supply, but it's a horrid colour and you're better off with a EVGA or Corsair one. Is the wireless network adapter a necessity for you? You're better off with a wired connection if possible. If that doesn't help or if I just confused you let me know
Also, take a look at ausoME's thread about this. Many have posted decent tips in it. http://skcraft.com/threads/pc-help.3785/
Yes, I will get an OS. Should I get Windows 7 or Windows 8? I don't like 8's interface, but they say it's better for gaming. Yes, I do need the wireless connection, for the router is in another room and I can't just run a wire all the way across without having to punch a hole in the wall. I've updated it, following your reccomendations. EDIT: Oops, forgot to add a case! How do I pick a good case for my computer?
Windows 8 is typically 40$ less. So I would say go with that. I don't think there is really any difference gaming wise. I completely understand needing the wireless for internet. I was able to move my computer and stretch some cables under the trim on the walls. Just make sure you get a good adapter. Your config. looks like what I would pickout. You are missing a case though. EDIT: you can knock 16$ off your build by skipping the dvd read/writer. You don't need it for the OS install, and I haven't used one is years. You may also be able to use the dvd reader/writer from an old pc.
Others need to verify: Cougar Solution (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case Also, the i5 4460 is actually cheaper then the i5 4440 atm. And read my last edit.
You flash the OS onto a flash drive. You aren't paying 80$ to 100$ for the disc, you are paying for the activation key.
In that case, with that graphic card, you will have a space of 0.09 inches between the graphic card and the drivebay. Just saying I have a CM storm Trooper. It's a big/full tower, but it's handy to have that extra space for any future upgrades.
Welp, all the promo sales for the cheap R9 270s are out of stock except for one which users claim crash a lot. Should I just stick with it? EDIT: How about 260s? RE-EDIT: Nevermind, found this
You should really stick with the r9 290. It's MUCH faster. EDIT,: Somebody needs to give a recommendation for a bigger case though
Welp, too late. I already ordered the parts. At least I can be confident it will be better than my current one
