I know there will be LOTS of hate for this, but will we ever add GregTech again? It felt that when we got rid of it, most people stopped playing. It adds a lot of content and general playtime to the game. Waiting to hear responses, so I'm gonna batten down the hatches and wait for the hate to roll through.
I understand the fact of it and its removals effects, but I also understand that it became ludicrously tedious just to get to basic machines. There is an "Easy Mode" in the configs, but that is basically removing the main point of GT. As it is not my jurisdiction to say whether a mod gets added or not, I do agree the lack of most of the older players, as I sorta have left myself (challenge is the smallest thing on my mind right now). However, if we add Greg Tech back, Those players that were absent would return, but a majority f the other players would leave. Either way, you are just gaining and losing players. This is only OPINION, as which we all have a right to voice opinions. Hopefully this explains why it was removed and if has a possibility to return due to players wanting its return.
I understand how tedious it was to make basic machines, but any member of the MPT could change the recipies and make them easier. It would make the entertainment value of the mod much higher.
Yeah, but the easy mode changes all of the recipies. I'm saying that we should only change the recipies for the basic machines.
This, I'd like to see play out - it certainly isn't a mod to simply add or decide not to add from only my personal judgement as stated by Ruler. EDIT: This should probably be moved to the mod requests forum.
First, I hate you, I hate you so much. Second, what, if anything, is worth bringing GT back? I'm really asking, because if there's something worth it that you get, that other mods don't offer far easier, I'm open to hearing about it.
If IC2/GT wasnt a lagfest tps-killer mod+addon, it would be in Alice long ago. This is the main issue above all personal opinion, judgment or statement.
Both IC2 and GT were removed because of the lag, and also because IC2 is dead, we don't even have IC2 in the pack anymore because of IC2-Dev basically being a tps-killer and also just a waste of everyone's time. Mek has advanced machines that aren't as expensive but quick to process (I know a lot of people complained about the loss of the Induction Smelter from IC2 because of it's processing speed), although I can see that Mek machines are easier to get hold of. Long story short, I wouldn't cross your fingers for IC2 and GT to return anytime soon. Or forever.
If GT were to ever have .0000000001 chance to return, he would have to learn by seeing what players like and dislike. Secondly, after looking into IC2/GT code, it would quite literally need to be 're-coded from SCRATCH just for a mid-level change in lag. So if you convince Greg, good for you.
I had a great in detail version of what would happen if greg tech was added, but appearently it was too graphic or something. Long story short, no greg tech. Please. Just don't.
After looking in just the IC2 Code (not GT), the reason it's a server hog is because of how sloppy the code is. Download the dev version and open it in Eclipse if you do not believe me. Even comparing other mods with similar mechanics ad items it is still sloppy.
Gregtech is laggy and slow as ****. Running just a pure greg/ic2 modded world made me lagg more than alice. Take a chill pill

I've been playing (and modifying the hell out of) a modpack called Beyond Reality for a few months now, after I got endgame in Alice1.7. It runs GregTech "Hard" mode. Been hosting it on a very low end blade server from like 2005 that my friend owns, and it's been running pretty much fine, leaving it running 24/7 including some chunk loaders. OBVIOUSLY we don't have 50+ players with machines, so I can't tell you it won't lag here, but I've never seen the TPS drop below 20, and trust me the server's hardware is quite bad. It does add quite a bit of server load time (on our hardware that's older than most Minecraft players themselves), but that's not exactly game breaking. As for the tedium - It's not anything like what it was last time we had it. I can't really provide any actual defense for the tedium part, but if you watch any of BevoLJ's Beyond Reality videos you'll kind of get the point. It's still GregTech, but it's not the GregTech we all got to know and hate. If it was, I wouldn't be playing that pack. I do understand why I'm going to get hate for this, but I do think the pros outweigh the cons. Instead of the gameplay lasting, say, a month or two (don't remember how long Alice 1.7 lasted, something like that - I was endgame within a few weeks, there wasn't really anything to do), it would last probably half a year or something. I'd vote yes.
DoomCommando Finaly someone with my very favorite modpack Yay! Well Beyond reaility is pretty much why i came to idea of modpack for alice hh and as I said part of hating freg is that you actualy love that how har is it now. But don't forget that Skcraft isn't like other servers (that's why it's sometimes called afkcraft) well if ppl will not do crapy shits as building server laging factories and 99 bilons of one kind of machine. I will have agree to you in that ppl just dont even bother playing with new GT cus they thing it's still same shit as before. Also the didn't like way what IC 2 is taking > More GT style now. There always will be ppl who will be hating greg but first they should play it. Also we don't know on what HW is alice running so it could be crap too ^.^and if you combine crapy machine with even 20 dumb ppl what will you get ?
