Hello friends. This is a post to address recent issues and revelations relating to the Open Base Project. In the past, the players of SKCraft came together and started to form a group of buildings now known as Open Base, or OB for short. OB was a place where anyone could contribute, whether is be building expertise, materials, machines, knowledge, power, etc, and where everyone was welcomed. In past iterations of Alice, OB excelled in helping new players get on their feet and also did very well in pushing the more experienced members to further expand their understanding and progress on through modpack. To get to OB, teleport to spawn and walk behind the building you spawn in. There is a train station behind the building you spawn in that literally leads directly to OB. If you wish to contribute, please first read the announcements below as they are always current with information pertaining to OB and what does and doesn't need to be done. Other than that, feel free to contribute to your hearts content. With love, Team OB ------------------------------------------------------------Announcements------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Today, a few council members got together and decided against the the putrid enchanted forest biome OB had been made into. It has been slow, but using blood magic Penguin has been working very hard switching it over to a desert biome. We decided on desert as we thought it would match our new OB HUB, which is going to be erected in the coming days. 2. OB is coming along very well! We have some very useful satellite sites constructed and fully operational.
HUB When i hear "hub", I feel nostalgic about the Dungeon Siege game. Here is a hub idea. well, DS1's hub : For OB, replace torches by beacon, use fancy marble and smoked quartz, no roof (or pure glass only) here we go. each plates aim to a satellite site (with signpost for description, ender io anchor / mek teleport / walkway to go to)
This was kind of what we were envisioning in the chat today. The video above accurately demonstrates how OB will end up looking. Marble and quartz have been added to a possible materials list under the announcements section. Thanks for your input Proger! On a side note, I'd like if anyone using the old OB thread to begin to transition to this one. I will keep this thread as current as I can, with all new information going directly into the announcements section to keep things organized!
As stated above, I'm starting an ore processing site, with an eye on 4x product from ore. If there's enough desire for x5, I'll do it. It'll be straight from ore to ingots, but if people want me to break up the production line for some reason, let me know. I was thinking aesthetically I'd use factory or lab blocks for the building, as it fits with the theme. Also, I find personally that unless you're planning on processing a staggering amount of ore, only one full height brine plant is needed, if you have a way to bank the chemicals for processing. When I'm done, I can alter it pretty easy if there's better ideas from others, just so long as the basic infrastructure is there. More to come when I have progress to show.
It's a conspiracy! Perhaps we could also consider using Tyrian (formerly known as Futuristic Armor Plating (which can be abbreviated to FAP)) for certain areas too. They look pretty cool.
About ore process : since the whole mek process is serialized, you can do a full 5x ore processline. Then, depending on material rarity, only input raw ore at the 4x ore stage. 5x is nice for quite rare ore like gold/cobalt/ardite, when 4x is more than enough for iron/copper/tin/...
I've never actually made a 5x rig before, I have a 4x rig at my base. I'm going to start with the 4x rig for now, then work out in singleplayer how to get it done. For some reason this map I wasn't able to get the ore processing at my base to serialize, so each machine had to be done manually. Don't worry, I'll fiddle around till I get it right. Also, I'll see how Tyrian blocks look, and if they jive with factory, I'll work it in somehow. I don't want to have TOO many blocks making the structure, as I don't want it to be too busy visually speaking, maybe 4-6 block types total. Lastly, as for me personally, it'd probably be best if tomato did the PR/forums part of this, because he seems to be a better communicator than I am.
With the brand new edition of a BM altar and further progress being made on the ore processing site, I can confidently say it has been a good day for OB. It seems we have a pretty narrowed down list of blocks for the new HUB, thanks for all of your input! Say goodbye to the purple monstrosity!
4x ore processing is up and running. All machines are at x9 for speed and power, and all machines are basic factories, allowing 3 items to be processed simultaneously. If you hear a voice when you approach the ore processing site, it has something to do with the mek tank I'm using to store brine resolving itself as a multiblock. I really have no idea why the mek developers felt this was necessary, and I have no idea how to remove the voice, but it only happens when the chunk is loaded as you approach, if you return to the site, you'll hear it again. Powering the rig is something of an issue, and I may end up having to make a small reactor if demand is high enough. It's currently being run on 4 advanced solars, 12 wind turbines, and a gas burner using excess hydrogen. If the site (which measures exactly 1 square chunk) could remain chunkloaded, it would allow power to slowly accrue and fill the energy cell, rather than use the resources of a reactor to produce power on demand. I'm not sure how parts of the old OB stayed chunk loaded, but it seems to me some sites and maybe the hub will need to remain loaded most of the time.
@labtech14: The voice can be disabled through a config option in Mekanism. I'll post what it's called when I'm back from university and I don't forget about it. In addition I think it's whispering CovertJaguar, because the DynamicTanks are a 1:1 copy of Railcraft tanks with some minor changes. EDIT You have to change in 'Mekanism.cfg' 'DynamicTankEasterEgg' to false to disable the easter egg.
We used chicken chunks before but due to the nature of them I swiftly removed them again because they suck.
Last night, I put up arches to the pathways to the different satellite areas. They correspond to what the places are about. The ore processing has a tin arch, the blood magic has a bloodstone arch, and my restraunt has a double golden arch shaped like an M. Also, the restaurant has been completed. There is a small ME system from which you can make orders of burgers, fries, toast, chocolate, smoothies, and things like that. There are joke headlines streaming across the entrance, and soon, there will be an on-demand computerized comedian making the cheesiest of cheesy jokes.
Ore processing site update: a reactor has been added, and Enderpenguin graciously added some computercraft so it's activation is now automatic. Ingot to ore ration is still 4x, but with the advent of a now abundant active power source, I could possibly add more machinery to the site, maybe including a quantum ring to the hub ME network. If you have any suggestions of other related things to add to ore processing, let me know and I'll see what I can do. At this point, I consider the site done, and ready for work. Nolan has offered to create a Botania site adjacent to JTHR's blood magic altar, so I thought I'd mention it in case he didn't. That having been said, unless anyone else has site requests, I'd figure the next thing I could work on is a site for Tinker's Construct, probably located opposite of the blood magic site, and nearby relatively to Ender's restaurant site. Lastly, at some point we should finally nail down the permanent design to the hub structure. Straw poll seemed to suggest that having a hub structure is fine, just not the one currently there. We should probably have either a discussion or a vote on the construction materials, and some idea as to the shape/size. When that's finalized, I'll tear down the current building and get to work on the new one, with help/donations from other players.
OB currently looks aweful. No offence, everyone has there bad builds. Its too sametrical, and way to bright pink and purple.
it looks a lot better on the inside and I think its better than the previous one because it's actually is structured and has a layout.
Ok, I'd say your post is redundant as like literally everyone's been hating on it, yet I don't see their sleeves rolled up, and I don't see sweat on their brows, which means until I see actual effort put forward, all I'm seeing is hot air blowing around. That having been said, if you'd actually absorbed the point of my last post, you'd see that rebuilding the hub structure is on the docket, it's an action item, it's being worked on, and if you want to show up and help, it'd be much appreciated. Join in the discussions when they happen, offer ideas on how it could be better, until then don't be surprised if I'm nonplussed to hear 'it's ugly, fix it' Also, I want to give a shout out to Brodolon for attempting to spell check Ronen's quote when he copied it for his post, but it seems he missed some of the bad grammar and spelling, as it was probably more than he could handle. Brodolon seems to get it, and I think it'd be nice if more people had his outlook on the situation. To return the 'no offense', it annoys me to no end to once again be told how it looks. Many messages can be taken from this: People aren't reading the previous posts, which would answer concerns people have (like hub's appearance) People love to complain, but don't like to help About 3 or 4 people have done the lion's share of the work, if the complainers chipped in, OB would be bustling instead of it being a relative ghost town. Some people need to retake remedial English Some people seem to think their role in working on OB is to create drama, which really helps things progress Said people are going to choose to get offended when I point this out TL;DR Yeah, I get it, I've gotten it since the day I made it, I'm sorry I decided to focus on function rather than form.
I think that might be a bit uncalled for. English isn't everyone's first language, and learning languages isn't exactly easy. That said, everyone should calm down. Some people don't seem to like the hub building (I haven't actually seen it, so I can't really comment) which is totally fine, but more discussion of how to make it better would be nice, as opposed to 'dat ugry.' Also, I'm sure most folks, if not all of you, are just trying to help. It's not a personal attack against lab, kurisu, or anyone else. TL;DR calm down, yo. Everything's gonna be ok.
Seeming that everyone believes that there is something wrong with OpenBase one way or another, I have created a poll to sort it out. Be honest. EDIT: Nevermind, did not notice the earlier strawpoll.
