Note, all my talks arent about whats right or wrong with OB. It's about the way this project is being handled. I want to contribute in OB. as anyone i can do many mod, many buildings. But it's pointless to rush in and do stuff atm, since i'm not sure to have full responsibility over any task. Because hub building wasnt clearly assigned to someone, also no guidelines were wrotten, all the OB team will again have to rediscuss/redo it. labtech, kurisu, talons, lord, do a meeting for the hub building. Set goals and vote on a general theme. Wrote a quick guideline, then recruit people to build, ask him/them to follow the guideline... If project management is teached in school, it is because it's HARD. only a few people have natural leadership skill and management skill. Every other have to learn them.
How about instead of manufacturing drama, you get the facts right talons? I stated clearly in my last post that if people have a problem with the hub building (which several ob team members had input in and seemed to like), they can discuss how it could be improved. I'm not refusing to allow anyone to modify the structure, but in the absence of constructive criticism, my default position is to keep things as is. Saying 'it's ugly' doesn't help, saying 'maybe you should rethink the color scheme' or 'maybe you should make it bigger/smaller' is at least a step in the right direction. BTW, you seem to have a rather pronounced presence in the forums for someone who said they can't really play consistently at the moment. As of right now, I'm inclined to elect Proger as the PR man for this, as he seems better able to distill my thinking in the forums.
I've resigned from OB already, but if I was still in OB, I would go and tear it down from bottom to top, because it's unsalvageable, and build a new hub building with prior planning. Here's what's wrong with it: >Poor colour scheme >Rigid shapes (it's essentially a box ->The way you've done the edges makes it actually worse than just a regular box. It's way too basic for me to actually elaborate, and I can't say how to fix it, because it's simply too simple to fix. Essentially it's like asking how to fix a regular ugly block. Nothing short of destroying the block and replacing it with another, better looking block will do. Of course, in the case of OB, it's on a larger scale than just a block, and it's not as simple as just replacing it with something else, since it actually has to be designed again. Anyway, you should never just go ahead and do something when there is a council, you have to actually wait and ask. Anyway, if you guys manage to fix the hub and the organisation, I'm more than happy to rejoin.
What the heck people? Why so much drama? Openbase is a collaborative project that anyone should be able to contribute to, this means there is going to be a wide variety of styles included. If you don't like someones build, go work on a different part or offer to help decorate it. Nothing is "unsalvageable" and saying that is just plain rude (although none of you are being particularly friendly here...) if it really is such an eyesore though, don't get upset if people try to make it look nicer.
You can't make something look nicer if it's incredibly bad to a certain level. There are actually things that are unsalvageable, and would be much easier to completely rebuild. Especially something like a dirt box: there is no way to fix a dirt box, the only solution to fixing it is completely tearing it down and starting again
You must see the dirt box as MORE than just a dirt box. You must imagine the POSSIBILITIES and potential CREATIONS that can be created from the sheer INSPIRATION given from that dirt box. It's not a dirt box, it's simply a beginning of all beginnings, a world to be discovered, the first of the first, the best of the best, and the most efficient way to complete the housing concerns of OB. If only you could see what I could see Talons...then you'd understand. BUT, you (simply and quite blatantly) don't.
OB update: I had a somewhat productive discussion with several people today, and we came up with some action items: 1 - hub will be changed, a straw poll will be put up on the subject 2 - anyone who wants on ob team can speak up so I can delegate 3 - JTHR will be handling blood magic for ob, his site is opposite enderpenguins in relation to hub 4 - over ground bridgeways will probably be replaced by underground tunnels, and perhaps more stuff/space will be put below the hub. Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Post below or in chat. Trying to build a council.
I made a group of machines for people to process things with. They include: Smelter Crusher Pulverizer Enricher More will be coming soon...
Sii > No, it isn't the most efficient way to design OB, because people will complain that it looks ugly, thus it contributes to a loss in efficiency as it must be torn down and redesigned. Dirt's also in much less of a surplus than it used to be, thanks to enderquarries.
Just wait for the enderquarry to finish and stick a worldhole upgrade on it and start it again... All the dirt you could ever want.
