The server's old enough at this point that a fair number of people are quite far along, and might be looking to contribute to people who might not be able or inclined to go down various tech trees for whatever reason, and who wish to donate or contribute to other current players, or new members of the community who might need a helping hand, or insight on how modded minecraft works. With that in mind, and with the previous experience of the OB (or outer base), I've currently decided to head up the Alice 1.7 OB project, with the blessing/support of mods/admins. Anyone who feels they wish to contribute or build things to help others out are free to contribute, so long as it doesn't interfere with other contributors efforts. Path has generously offered to create a teleport between spawn and wherever OB will be placed, for ease of transport. I am aware LordRedstone tried to start an OB up a little while ago, but everyone says he hasn't played in a month, so I assume he's defaulted on his project. As for ground rules, off the top of my head in no particular priority: 1 - no griefing (obviously) 2 - no sabotaging of other people's work 3 - have respect for space, either in regards to what's been built, or how much space you use 4 - try to be aesthetically acceptable, nothing horrible looking unless it's unavoidable 5 - try to remain within the bounds established at the outset, overall boundary may be increased as need arises. 6 - I will head up the overall project, subject to the authority of the mods/admins. Those who wish to contribute/build on site should try to speak to me first so that I can feng shui your contribution into the OB as a whole, rather than things being in disorganized heaps everywhere. I may, and probably will, appoint a second to manage things when I am not online. 7 - all rules are subordinate to server's rules. I may end up amending things, as literally this whole idea for me to head this up started just today, so none of this is super permanent, and will be smoothed out as things progress. Which leads us to PHASE ONE of the project: build site. For the next ~24 hours, anyone who replies to this post can vote for what biome/locale/area they'd like to see the OB placed. Would you like to see OB in a desert? In a forest? In a particular biome, such as magical forest? On top of a floating slime island? At the bottom of the ocean in the middle of nowhere? Only excluded locations are the Nether/End/Corrupted sector, as well as near Spawn or anywhere near an established base. So, below, state where you'd like to see OB built, and if you feel like it, what overall style you'd maybe like OB to have, such as castle/oriental/western/etc. for motif, and I'll do my best to accommodate, but bear in mind final choices are up to me if votes don't lead to a particular location. PHASE ONE will be complete when location is chosen and prepared for contributions, at which point I will make a separate post regarding PHASE TWO, which will be how and where you can contribute to OB, if you are so inclined. Thank you for the opportunity and your time, and if you have any questions or concerns let me know either in this post, or ingame when I'm online.

I don't really mind either, but I would suggest we choose an area/biome that isn't too heavy on client performance, since there are going to be many builds with a lot of block sides rendered... And as a building style, maybe a factory-ish theme; pretty easy to build stuff with this style and there are a lot of blocks who follow this factory look.
I'm thinking that wherever we build it, there needs to be enough space for everything to fit and have room to expand. Also, in the past, people have been unable to use OB due to the lag caused by the large concentration of machines in one area, so the new one needs to be sufficiently spread out over an area to avoid this happening to people.
I vote Lavender Field! It's a purple and beautiful, btw, if we need a specific biome for OB, Toni has this pre-gen map of the world that we can look at
I don't get why people like that Biome so much...i mean its just purple everywhere... I'd recommend the Pasture Biome cause we don't need to change the land to make it flat and it has a nice warm look to it :I we can also make OB look like a farm EDIT: How are we suppose to travel there?
You are welcome to start up OB as I have no plans to play for now. I would appreciate it if I was kept on the OB team though. We did have an area before, but it was ugly. I have also done a bit of work towards OB before I left, so I can transfer that over. It's not much though; just some Botania stuff.
Ok, looking over posts, consensus seems to be a plains/pasture biome. I'm told there's a worldmap available, so a link to it would be appreciated, as it would save me some time from scouting it out manually. If I can find such a biome near a lavender or sakura biome, I will attempt to do so, but I'm also going to be looking around to see if any established bases are in the area, so as not to complicate matters, if there's a way to know where/how far away claims are from any area, that'd be good information to have as well. Bear in mind this OB will, in all likelihood, be significantly larger than in previous iterations. This is so that cpu intensive systems can be spread out to minimize lag for any players nearby. I'm not sure how big exactly, because my building style tends to take the topography and area into account, so I'll be playing by ear. As for motif, consensus seems to lean for factory/futuristic and/or pastoral/farmland. To best ameliorate these two motifs, I've decided that areas within a certain boundary will be more technological, and areas outside the bounds will be more agrarian. As for project team, I haven't decided on a second yet, as that choice will probably grow organically from whoever seems the most knowledgeable/eager/consistent/artistic individual who volunteers. LordRedstone has chimed in and given his support, so he will be on the team as a consultant, however past that will require regular playtime if he is so inclined. Aside from that, all choices will be up to me and my second, with council form LordRedstone if he wants to contribute. Additional members may be chosen depending on workload/interest/etc., but who's on the team is up to me, and will be based on observed effort, and not on playing favorites. If you feel there's anything I've overlooked, please don't hesitate to post or talk to me in server. This is the first server-wide project I've headed up, so I'm bound to make mistakes or not take something into account. Constructive criticism is appreciated, but bear in mind I have a certain style of doing things that's much more deliberative than others, and if it seems I'm dragging my feet on anything, it may just be I'm thinking out all the angles to make sure something's done right the first time, rather than having to rip up and do things over. Anyway, I'll let the voting process play out for another few hours, then start work.
I don't know where I think we should put it, but I think that I can participate in building and maintaining it. I can set up a teleporter link between it and my base to do stuff.
Totally not gonna work, I heard that Mek teleporters only work when the teleporter is loaded. So......
I live in a giant Lavender biome, if we want to use it. OpenBase was in a good spot by spawn in 1.6, making it easy to goto from Spawn. And without the use of Portals (currently), I think a spot by Spawn is crucial. Also, i'll be helping a large amount with OpenBase2, Just like I did with 1.6. Also, we'll be needing some LUA developers for our usual Computer setup, so if you'd like to write some code, please talk to one of us. <3
