We might be setting up another voice chat server, but please vote in this thread as to your preferred voice chat program.
Both are good. I choose TS since it's "aesthetically prettier"! Another good option may be RaidCall or X-Fire. They are free and the voice channels are hosted up at the owners' machine and not in a paid server, as ts for example!
Teamspeak would be great! Talking with some english dudes all around the world ... Hell yeah ^^ I never tried the other 2, so if you go with that, i will too.
I strongly suggest mumble, since it has an overlay you can use to see who's talking. (Not to mention, it's completely open source.)
Personally, I've never really used anything other then Steam, and Teamspeak, since I usually don't talk to any body other then friends, but I'll download them all to see the result! Might see which one I like better anyway.
I own a ventrilo server hosting company and can give you one for skcraft. XD So I obviously choose ventrilo.
Mumble utterly destroys all the competition that I'm aware of. Open source, stable, cross platform, does crypto and does it right (your chat is encrypted between you and the server, and you can even use public key authentication, which is just awesome), good compression and runs easily on the cheapest of VPS, excellent and configurable hud...
Never used any of these, but Mumble sounds good with its overlay that shows who's talking and being open source (perhaps some integration with the Online List?). EDIT: Just read a heap of comparisons, and not a single one favoured anything but Mumble.
Out of the two I've used, Mumble is what I prefer (never used Teamspeak). I really love the overlay feature.
Hey !!! You fogotten Skype !!! Over 25 millions of users of skype are online ! How could you forget it! I use skype everydays !
Nah skype isn't very good for group chat because it requires someone or others to add people to the chat instead of them all being able to choose if they want to join or not so people can't join of their free will.
Based on the revote requests, the standing after 19 votes is the following: 1. Mumble: 10 votes (52.6%) 2. Teamspeak: 7 votes (36,8%) 3. Ventrillo: 2 votes (10.5%) Skype is a (group)call service, not a chat service. It is simply not an option.
With another vote for mumble, it is now becoming the clear leader. 1. Mumble: 11 votes (55%) 2. Teamspeak: 7 votes (35%) 3. Ventrillo: 2 votes (10%) (accounting for revote requests)
Quoted for truth. Teamspeak is definitely the least of these, Mumble far outperforms the other two options, and Vent is the middle ground. Imho.
