Helllll noooo that's gonna wreck MC >.< Minecraft is community driven and if a big company like MS got into this, we'll be wrecked
If any one of these things happen, we will all be doomed: They ban decompiling the game and modding it They add some extra purchases, like buying the ability to get a custom, non-steve skin for $0.99 (this does not include the fee of Minecraft itself) They change Minecraft and base it on the F2P model (i.e. give $10 for diamonds whenever you make a new world) They change the one-time fee to a membership
They are going to ban decompiling and modding the game. That is what their plugin api is going to be for.
The only thing I could see them actually doing is banning decompiling, which would be comically impossible to enforce. And they won't, Microsoft isn't stupid. And I doubt the sale will actually happen. We don't even have a reliable source at this point, it's just a rumor.
The microsoft of 1997 is not the microsoft of 2014. They're not stupid and all these situations you guys are freaking out about are worst case scenarios. TBH I think MS is just getting the right to MCX
A news site posted about it, I forgot exactly which. It said they heard it from somewhere, but it didn't give any actual source.
Im pretty sure if MS is buying mc, then mostly for the merchandise and associated products and the brand name. Oh and maybe some future DLC.
So...Mojang bought Bukkit, but may potentially be bought out by Microsoft. Great. EDIT: We should wait for Minecraft to be added to one of Microsoft's other (lame) games in Windows 9 by default.
