As you may be aware, we plan on resetting the worlds for Alice when Minecraft 1.2.3 hits. We haven't yet finalized on the mods we use yet and we're open to suggestions. Presently, we're planning to use the following mods: BuildCraft IndustrialCraft2 RedPower RailCraft Forestry PowerConverters possibly AdditionalPipes hopefully ComputerCraft We are not going to have Equivalent Exchange because its features unbalance the game, and and we likely will not have Compact Solars (which provides the high density solar panels), because it makes all other methods of obtaining energy somewhat obsolete. The latter decision is still up to discussion, however. Please voice your concerns and suggestions here. Also, RedPower users will be finding these new features:
I approve, I also offer my time to help setup a public rail system because I've fallen in love with Railcraft. Yes, my lady is jealous.
I agree, that EE seemed a bit overpowered from what other players reported. I hadn't tried it. Is 1.2.3 the newest version of minecraft, or are we still a step or two behind Vincent/vanilla servers? I disagree though on the removal of the concentrated solar systems, mainly because other energy sources required much more maintainance, which was the whole point of BC/IC. machines were supposed to make playing the game less redundant, less time mining stone just to find some coal to cook, dig or whatever. Arrayed solar panels freed a player of the shackles of a time consuming resource collection so they could focus on making more elaborate structures than cobble-boxes. I will concede thought that the solar arrays, when set up properly where much less material intensive than trying to get combustion engines working properly. For example, I have 1 mv array hooked to a MFSU, going to a converter, powering a quarry. If I wanted to do the same thing in BC, I'd need around 5 combustion engines, a redstone triggering system, oil supply, water supply, and then BC conductive pipe. It is the ease of construction and maintenance that prompted me to totally ignore redpower and go with IC power. So I feel like I left out a good portion of the entire game simply due to it's complexity. Anyway, hopefully the update will go well.
We're pretty much always a step behind for 1-2 months due to the nature of he beast. This time we will be move to 1.2.x though. There are other alternatives to solar power, such as nuclear reactors. I will admit that solar panels do make it much easier, but that was also the issue in my opinion. For us, we pretty much went pure solar pretty early and we didn't really bother trying all the other energy sources very heavily.
SK89q, I think you summed up the situation quite well; "I will admit solar panels do make it much easier, but that was also the issue in my opinion."(SK). Well I guess I'll just have to figure out BC solar panels, and hope I can make enough, or a nuke reactor, to power the more advanced machines. I can't imagine trying to power a mass fab let alone an induction furnace on wind power or redstone engines...
What's about this better chest mod? Ironchest or what was it called... where you could craft diamond chests as well. Would be cool to get those. Here is the link: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/981855-123-forge-sspsmpbukkit-ironchests-30/
In order for high power nuclear reactors to be feasible, I think the Modular Force Field System addon for IC2 is necessary.
Re: Compact Solars How about disabling the High Voltage Solar Array Recipe, and feeding each plot in spawn city from a single HV solar array? That way, the free power in spawn is tightly regulated. (512EU/t for each plot) (Naturally, if that's too much, we can disable MV and use that instead.) Re: Computercraft If turtles usable and Worldedit Aware, great! Be however aware of the grief potential! (and I can use My Computercraft GIT again )
Eh? I spent a little time fooling around with destructiveness on a singleplayer world and found that a box of 5x5 interior and 2x thick reinforced stone walls was sufficient to completely damp a blast (you lose the entire interior layer of stone, and that's about it). Granted, that's pretty darn expensive, but it's doable. Also, a sufficiently large volume of surrounding water did wonders. I didn't do a ton of detailed checks blast absorbance of pipes or wires in and out, but anecdotally I'd say that even copper wire is vastly more blast resistant that I'd have expected (maybe 10ish in a row leaves you safe).
apart from the mods we're planning to use for the server with a few additions to like the Modular Force Field System addon that thtredstonegui mentioned and the iron chest mod that madness mentioned I don;t think there is really any mods that would be popular enough to use let alone be updated and smp compatible, except maybe wireless redstone but i'm not too sure if its even smp yet.
MFFS would be mainly useful for cooling nuclear reactors (MFFS Reactor Heat Control) completely filled with uranium cells and for emergency shutdowns. I'm not too worried about the blast.
Ok 2 things........ Can we get the mod logistics pipes for buildcraft (AMAZING)..... and second thing are we able to keep our inventory from alice, because allot of people put allot of time into there items and it would be amazing if you could?
I just built a 33*33 solar farm in SSP... where I went from a solid 300 FPS when nothing is changing, to a 150FPS, each time I added a single wire to the energynet. not to mention the very noticable lag spike, and a longer tick time. Maybe the reciepe should be made slightly more expensive to account for the wires. LVsol = 8 sol + LVtrans + 4 LVcable MVsol = 8 LVsol + MVtrans + 4 MVcable HVsol = 8 MVsol + HVtrans + 4 HVcable (or even fibre)
Your forgetting that only 9 things fit in a crafting table... 1. As Shadow stated below me, Logistics Pipes has yet to be ported to SMP. 2. Cannot copy inventories due to some mods being removed in the reset. Minecraft will crash if it finds an item it doesn't know what to do with. Sk *could* write a script to remove these items from your inventory, but I think a *fresh* start is what we are going for (correct me if I'm wrong).
ok If you look very closely at logistics pipes buildcraft page you can clearly see SSP ONLY on the top, and if it was smp i would have already asked to have it added. and 2 everyone would love that but it would take wayyy too much time unless sk figured out a way to read/copy whats in a chest and then to copy it over to a separate world so it would probably be too hard if not impossible to accomplish.
I believe (hope) it can be worked around with shapeless reciepes, since at least the redpower alloy furnace is able to take multiple items from the same stack, and there are only 3 unique items...
