I think this is an excellent idea... I know I'm particularly bad about it, every time I play I just end up with a giant underground factory. Which looks alright in it's own way true, but doesn't change the fact that I just live in a giant rectangle room all the time.
Also, with this next reset I will begin work on a public power system immediately. It would be cool if there was a better method of massive RF generation. My last project was big reactors and my final output was somewhere around 2.8mil RF/t, unfortunately this required a reactor with almost 3000 fuel rods and more turbines than a sane person would ever consider building. The rate it ate fuel was so huge I did almost nothing but roam the Deep Dark there toward the end. Perhaps some tweaking of the code could be done here? Or another major power production mod introduced?
Railcraft boilers make steam that you can use. The one problem is that BigReactors run on 20 ticks/s and Railcraft on 10 ticks/s so it only made around half output, around 11k rf/t per turbine. You only need insane amounts of charcoal, easy with some harvesters and smelters/furnaces set up.
I know I've suggested this before, so let me now launch my case for it: I suggest we add Greg's SGCraft, as we won't be having EP2 since it's not updated, and EP3 sucks, we could use the aforemention SGCraft (a stargate mod). I'm fairly certain naquadah can be disabled in the config, thus meaning they will only be powered by power (IC2 specifically, but mek cables so eh). They have a DHD like EP2 does and thus will work similarly (although codes are 6 characters long, and they are constellations). There's also no hassle of building upgrades. A thing to note, there is a large splash formed when wormholes are opened, and players die. Also, it takes a short while to dial (it spins around)

Now that would be awesome! While you're at it, make it your permanent base aswell since there is plenty of space there for everything you need!

NO MY MARIOPIPE MOD WILL BE BETTER On a more serious note, I'm pretty sure the splash killing players can be disabled in the config, as I have played on a server with Greg's SG on and haven't had it kill me. Also, they don't require power (I think?) possibly through a certain option.
I'm planning to work on OpenBase as soon as possible. I would love it if we had Mystcraft as there are some very nice features but obviously too many ages can cause a huge performance hit for the server. Big Reactors are good for power, but remember, tall skinny reactors are better than short fat reactors. I'll be using a Big Reactor for the power at OpenBase, and I'll probably make some cool automated Thaumcraft setups, if I get into Thaumcraft enough. Another thing, I kind of want a mod with a decent tech tree advancement. Witchery is a good example, but so much of it would have to be disabled for a non-pvp server that it'd be basically worthless. Something that can't be done inside a day would be great. Thaumcraft is like that but I often find that TC is too difficult (and then I go ahead and try to do it anyway, and run out of Aer research points).
Mystcraft will be listed but please try to suggest new mods, the mods you request are already inside the suggestion list, if you can't find it, here. The list is meant to keep this thread clean and open for new suggestions.
Food Plus would be nice, but it does seem to have some ID conflicts with UsefulFood, which I like the textures of more... hopefully we can have both in 1.7! I would also like Hamsteriffic. Because hamsters.
I hesiatate to suggest Mo Creatures... since,... well while it does provide variety, it's also spamming mobbs just a bit... if it could be tweaked so it gave variety but not overpopulated the world with weirdoes ... then it could be great.
you could add magic bees and un-blacklist all resource bees, they really dont produce so much resources, and without them I dont see a point at breeding bees
They produce an enormous amount of resources. That was the primary reason behind peoples level of wealth and server lag due to huge bee setups.
I do really would like to try bees even if not the magic bees maybe just extrabees and possibly gendustry? I never got to try them last map and I would really like to, and also it contribute to a lot of hours of time on the server.
Gendustry was the reason people could get the high tier bees in high amounts easily. It completely wrecked that map's balance, and we will most likely not see the mod make a return.
