Maybe something like this? ( http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/internal-hard-drive/#sort=a10 ) But space isn't really a problem as I've survived on 60gb before. (One partition for arch Linux for mucking about, other for lubuntu)
My laptop cost around £500 pre-built, and it's not that good, but it can run Alice and all of the Technic packs. Here's the parts I would suggest: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/dRDPQ7 It's a bit over-budget, but you could change that by getting 8GB RAM rather than 16GB as I’ve done here. It's also got an nVidia graphics card, because #antiamd
Ill have a look at it as a laptop could be better. But I didn't know that you can custom build a laptop? EDIT: post merge.
It depends on what you want to play or do tbh. My friend has pretty much the same system as me except a Caviar Blue whereas I have a Caviar Black, and he gets noticeably worse performance in some games like ArmA and DCS. Not BAD performance, just lower. Price wise? The one I linked is only about £15 more than the one in Path's list. It'll go more over your budget, so whether it's worth the extra money is up to you. Edit: After reading your recent posts, you could bump down to a 500gb WD Black or less. HOWEVER! I thought the same thing when I had my old computer, that I would never need more than 1TB, but now that 1TB is almost full since I can now play WAY more games than I could on the old PC, hence why I didn't need as much space.

When my mum comes home, ill probably go to the PCWorld/Currys near me to look at their prices. So that price may be cheaper.
Blues are on par with Blacks when benchmarked. It appears that its the warranty your are paying for when opting for a black. As long as you don't get a green or a red you will be fine. As far as I know Minecraft actually loads the modpack into the RAM.
Don't waste your time going to PC World you won't find anything high end nor is it reasonably priced.
8GB seems good enough for me, I have 8GB in my laptop. Usually this means you can dedicate 4GB to minecraft if you need to.
Yeah, greens are the eco drives. Personally i have found the greens are good to accompany an ssd, to store documents n shit
You will most likely need an account to purchase from PC World Business as that range is not available in the stores.
I might be able to help you out with windows. either free or cheaper at least. genuine obviously nothing dodgy.
