Warning:before reading this , this is my opinion on this, just remember that. I have been going to open base for a while and wondering who mantains on now days, I have never seen anyone who mainly contributed to it. I think it should be maintained a bit more and needs more people to work on it, for example, yesterday the extractor broke down and we had no one to mantain it. Someone should take up the project becaus there is a lot of room for improvement. I have a lot of great ideas that could be put in to it. The possibilities are endless for what could be put into this. I feel like people like me should be able to contribute to the project and make it a better place for the players. Improve the power system and such. Bring new ideas to the land. It just disappoints me that people just leave the project. I don't even know who owns the rights anymore , it should be taken up by the people who want to contribute. If I had the power to take up the project..... There would be a difference In this problem. So what do you think about this, should the ob be taken into open source project. Please post what you think below.
I apologize for my absence and lack of maintaining OpenBase, but there is good reason as for why the central power source is locked to a trusted group of people. There is plenty of room for improvement, anyone is allowed to add useful utilities anywhere at OpenBase so long as there is free space. As for making OB a COMPLETELY open source project, I'm highly against that for the causes of griefing and such (don't tell me that you don't want the biggest, best reactor in all SKCraft). As for the extractor not running, that's because the number of people who use the utilities is greater than the number of people who donate fuel, and as we all know, no fuel = no utilities. So I'll leave it to this, OB should not be absolutely open source, but as of now, anyone is allowed to contribute any utility to OpenBase provided there is space for it.
I've been maintaining it, going through and fixing systems, the idea and setups are alright the execution is poor. For example some parts seem dependent on an external base to be loaded. I think in 1.7 I might pick up this project, simply because I can be reached and for the most part do support all the packs for their life cycle. Repairs are coming, however I'm one person and while I do know the mods, I have range more than depth so I do end up having to read up on things bear with me while I figure out the internals of OB and sort things out.
I will be looking forward to see that, but the thing is, more people use the machines then the fuel that's donated
The cables had bugged out so I had to replace them all I missed one of the furnaces that's been fixed. I've also upgraded one of the extractors magnatastics, and now I'm currently working on fixing/automating the esentia stuff
Ever since that has been "griefed", I never bothered fixing it. The setup could definitely use a redo and the program to count aspects can be updated to IdioticAussie's edited version of mine - or simply redo that whole code, I personally don't care.
I wouldn't mind coming on to maintain OB, as it's an awesome project, but the question is whether anyone would want me to.
As Siioh stated above the only protected areas are the power network and that is because 3 of us put an extensive amount of resources into the enormous reactor that lie beneath the ground. I will pop on later and see how everything is going!
I demanded to be part of OB and I have bypassed some warded stuff in the past using wizard powers to help get it back up, but the guy who runs it is never on for me to be added 10/10
I started feeding your reactor, it does seem to have an issue sometimes null exception comes up on the screen, other than that the mek cables needed replacing so I've upgraded and replaced them. I installed a burger farm and it is feeding in to an ender chest just outside the main area (machine room) right before the micro farms. It has a wheat crop growing to produce ind. fertilizer. it just needs to be crafted by hand at the moment
I'd love to work on the project on 1.7, so I might either start the base asap, or just ask Cromy if I can help manage the project.
I Would also Be intreated in Building OB in 1.7 it Would be a great project I Have A few Ideas For it. And Working on OB would be something different than Building a base for myself. Because That Gets Dull After a while.
I adapted the code very dirtily which is most likely why. It relies on the ae to be connected etc.. couldnt be bothered to write code in to prevent npes!
