What killed it for me was the lack of automining/item generation. I'm the kind of player who makes expensive stuff and does long preparations just to be as lazy as possible and automate everything for endgame. But now I have to go and manually mine stuff if I need more items. This is just not how I like to play, so I'll probably not return unless we get item generation or automining back. (Edit: of course it's absolutely okay for me to mine manually for most of the game, but I like the option to get items mostly or completely automatically for late mid-/endgame.) Please consider this, if only for the next iteration of the modpack / next world. It's not only for me, I won't ask for this only for myself; I know others feel the same way. We play tech mods for automation, and it doesn't feel good if the most basic and most important kind of automation is gone. On another note, a request... once you are getting started on the next world, may I help building the university/tutorial rooms? I'd like to have a short ingame tutorial for all major mods, it helps new players tremendously. Building those and keeping them up-to-date would be a job I want to do. For Greenwell, we only really had two TE3 rooms and one AE room, that wasn't much. Other rooms were closed since the very beginning, nobody wanted to add stuff... or update the tech tree room for Alice Deux. I'd also love to help out with spawn building in general, but the University is something that I always loved to have, and I'd give my very best for it. I want it to be a great place to check out for new players.
I'm not sure if you have noticed, but 5/6ths of our modpacks for the past 3 years have had auto-mining. For this one time, we purposely tried something different -- well aware that it's not for everyone -- and we get complaints along the lines of "our viewpoint on auto-mining is superior -- the opinions of others is unimportant. You have no right to make a modpack for them." Even though history tells us things are likely on the side of people who like auto-mining, and it's others that are more likely to be shafted. This is also a bit off-topic. This update is for people who are playing this modpack, not for people who aren't. When time comes around to it, we'll start gathering people for spawn build on the forums.
I'm enjoying the lack of auto-mining at the moment, but I think I'm definitely ready to get it back with the next pack. I'd also like to be part of the build team!!!
I too am enjoying the lack of auto-mining. In particular, I appreciate the lack of idlers... the percentage of players logged in just to keep their base loaded is more like 1/4 of those on, rather than the 3/4 I remember, and it seems the tickrate remained higher as well. That said, I'm sympathetic to those who prefer it the other way. I do think there are tangible benefits to the removal of automining, but it's a big change and it certainly impacts your playstyle. After two years of doing it one way, changing the tone of the server is an understandably unwelcome surprise.
I don't think my viewpoint is superiour, there are reasons both for and against auto-mining. There are definitely some people who like to mine themselves instead of slapping down a quarry or mining laser and then wait. However, people who like to mine manually can always do that, even with auto-mining enabled, while players who want to automine can't play their preferred way if it's disabled. Also, why would anyone tell you that you have no right to make a modpack for another group of players? It's your server. I'm merely voicing my opinion, hoping you may consider my suggestions. I don't want to dictate you, and I don't have the right to do so. So you don't want the people who stopped playing, including myself, to return? You don't want any new players? I don't understand that logic.
A number of people were in favor of disabling auto mining for this pack simply because there is nothing to really slow progression. The current pack has lasted longer than the original 1.6 pack, and yet it's in a similar state to the old one which was ded in about a month when people started complaining of nothing to do. At this stage in 1.6 I'm willing to add a number of mods and possibly re-enable nether pumping and auto-ming, if for nothing else to observe how the community responds, and utilaizes the mods to determine if they make it in to the 1.7 pack.
To meet people, perhaps. Anyway, for me there isn't any reason to return before 1.7. I will definitely return then, even if you decide to keep auto-mining disabled. I'll still have fun for a while. Maybe I'll check in tomorrow or so anyway if I don't decide to play Civ V instead (it released natively for Linux a while ago and it's awesome, but it takes forever to play... I played the tutorial from 10am to 11pm and didn't finish it).
S Spawn building is my favorite! I can't wait to get back to it. SK hit me up if you still want help with that. I'm thinking about a Mediterranean Coast Theme for 1.7....
