i think the flans mod would be a good mod to add because I think it would be a good mod to fool around with like the guns and whatnot. Dont get me wrong we definitely do not need this mod but i would like it to fool around with and want to put my dog in a plane thanks for your time!
I like Flans mod, and it is compatible with most tech mods, but I don't think it's something MPT would consider due to bugs and the somewhat OP nature of guns (though I think you can tweak guns with configs). Actually, I don't think the guns part would be considered at all due to the theme or something, but again that's something that can be changed - I'm pretty sure there's a medieval pack for Flans. You can pretty much achieve the same effect as a plane with a jetpack+wing thing (forgot the name, brainfart) albeit obviously not as epic and awesome as flying around a biplane and building airports would be. I could see something similar to the Vincent rail line being developed around planes - players building small airstrips at their bases, larger airstrips at say OpenBase, and a terminal at spawn. That would be sick. But in general, I'm not sure what to think about this, and I'm not sure that MPT will even consider it. Heck, it may already be on the denied list - not sure.
Flan's would be an epic mod. But the only downside I can think of? If I occasionally crash entering the OpenBase portal and get ~4 FPS at my base, where there's way less machines, Flan's will eat our low-performance computers up. It just will.
I previously tested Flan's for Alice 1.4, but it was buggy as hell. I guess someone could try again for 1.6.
I'm not MPT or anything (obviously) but I'm genuinely interested how things will work out. I'm going to test this myself. I haven't seen anything too bad so far. As long as you get a decent content pack, everything's fine. Do you remember any specific bugs?
As far as I know, Flan's was updated quite a bit since 1.4 to be less buggy. The only issues I'd see would be either lowered FPS, not being part of our mod pack theme, or simply be annoying in size (ridiculously large airplanes).
I turned everything down to lowest, except for my render distance (which I turned down to Short), and in my base recently, I get 10- FPS. However, this may be due to the recent addition of my wheat farm with 9 sprinklers spraying particles all over the place. Usually I get 20-30 FPS.
Lower FPS - Probably on lower end PCs. Theme - Can be changed with content packs. Size - Same as above. Some Rotarycraft machines even tank my FPS, and that's saying something about its rendering.
it has to do when you put a gun in a modification table it crashes sometimes. btw what is this theme thing? for the modpacks?
if we needed permission to put this in (don't think we do - this counts as private possibly?) because if we need permission jamioflan won't give it (tried asking him for permission for a pack once, he just went NOPE.)
I don't think that happens anymore, but I'll go try it again later on. The theme thing is Content Packs (http://flansmod.com/content-packs). Basically you can have anything from futuristic to modern, WWII, WWI, Wild West, etc. and random things like civil service vehicles (box trucks, cop cars, blah blah) or even mechs (Titanfall style) I have no idea about modpack guidelines these days. If he uses the same definitions of private and public modpacks as Reika does, we're public. But Reika is a bit pretentious with his mods so probably not. That's something for MPT obviously, so I shouldn't even be commenting on it.
(wouldn't let me further edit my old reply) Also, if we do end up adding this mod I suggest changing the fuel used: to IC2 fuel cans if possible. and the plastic recipe: to possibly be made from MFR plastic sheets (the ones made from 2x2 crafting plastic dust) Also: Pretty obvious here (this is a battery..) to replace this with an IC2 battery or something. A lot of the recipes for guns and planes and vehicles are relatively expensive (a handfull of iron blocks per thing), but the fuel recipe is ridiculous. But I'm sure this is something MPT would work out if this mod gets accepted, so I'll stop posting useless things.
If flans turns out to be stable i think we should add it in and if it is still a but buggy then we remove it again hopefully not
