Because of some serious balance (and some aesthetic) issues, the MPT have decided to nerf certain power generation setups that use Mekanism generators. The setups affected by these nerfs are: Arrays of Wind Turbines Arrays of Hydrogen Generators Wind Turbine output will be drastically lowered to a point where even big arrays aren't effecient. Hydrogen Generator output will be lowered to a point where 'water to power' setups will be barely profitable. Custom recipes will be put in place to convert your generators into some base materials again. These nerfs are currently scheduled to happen on Monday 21st April. If you wish to generate a lot of power still, consider switching to reactors and perhaps turbines from the Big Reactors mod. There are plenty of people that already have setups like these, and some will gladly help you build one yourself. If you are still at early-game and don't have the materials to build a big reactor, consider using the various other generators from Mekanism, or the different generators from Extra Utilities, or even simply the dynamos from Thermal Expansion. We apologize for the inconvenience this nerf may cause, but it had to happen at some time.
If you are going to nerf mek generators, I recommend aiming for resource parity between the Mek versions and Rotary Craft hydro generators, IC2 Solar, and other infinite power. It *sounds* like you are aiming to make Mek worse, but I'm not sure why... bringing it down to parity would be more fair, no? And, of course, by 'parity' I mean that the same amount of resources should get you about the same amount of power regardless of mod. It's impossible for complete equivalence, because of the confusion of different resource value, but it should be approximately calculable.
How much will the nerf be, and big reactors would be buffed because of this right? But is the nerf going to be 10% of max? 5%? 1%?
nopenopenopenopenopenopenopenopenopenope. This is bad for me. I have 2 wind turbines that power my entire base. I can't make steel because making it is too difficult for me right now. This is my main source of power. I'm out.
I am happy to hear that most resources will be refunded, as it would be a colossal loss for me and my 256 turbines.
I'm fine with hydrogen generators getting a nerf. I've always considered them to be trickle power at best. Was nice to be able to run my ME system with one right off the bat though. Maybe I'll start generating power with a reactant dynamo. Creosote and gunpowder (which I can mass produce with TC4) sounds fun.
make a blast furnace and coke oven both are day one items for most people Coke Coal is just coal and steel is just iron and coal coke. It's highly inexpensive and resource efficient.
I'm sure if you asked "Nicely" to some of the other players, they could ask for pay in return or just do it in kindness. You DON'T need to make a reactor yourself. I mean, Look at me, My first reactor was helped by Slayer before he got banned.
Honestly with mekanism steel can be produced fairly cheaply and fairly fast, it only took me one day to produce enough steel to make a reactor/turbine that produces 11k RF/t. Even with railcraft you can easily make a set and forget steel production line, using coal blocks, iron blocks, and item ducts/hoppers you should be able to easily produce ~500 steel per day, without even touching the system once you have it set up. Here is my question, is the boost to reactors returning with this nerf to mekanism?
Overall, I think this is a decent nerf. "I'm not even mad." It would be nice if they were nerfed to a point where they would be able to provide idle power for a more advanced base - like mine are now. But it seems like after these nerfs it would take Tomato's array of 256 to idle power a base . I also wish there would be a decent alternative to reactors so that not everyone has the same thing powering their base. But regardless, I think some people are just going to shrug it off and build 500 more wind turbines as a result of this. Nerfs =/= solutions every time.
I think when they nerfed it a little while ago and values weren't final, turbines produced 5RF/t I am already moving toward reactor power myself, but I will still keep some wind turbines as I think they look cool regardless of their power output. I think this still may be possible, partially. I'd also like to see this myself. Perhaps something that runs off an insane amount of coal so that we have more uses for all the coal from the deep dark? This is always a possibility, but after a certain point, other solutions become more viable.
These are going to be nerfed too I believe, all Meka generators afaik. I'd prefer something self sustaining. Not free infinite power like wind turbines, but something that takes a decent bit of automation to set up, like a treefarm/boiler setup (which is pointless now from previous nerfs).
All? I don't think so, toni only mentinoed hydrogen generators and wind turbines, I think solar and all the others will be fine. I might need to begin using solar as well, actually, because powering a billion things (via tessaract) with a single reactor that outputs only 1k rf/t (at the capacity I run it) isn't the best way to go.
