Not with that attitude. 1. Have automining on and have people spam it like crazy because they can, not caring at all about the rest of the server 2. Have automining disabled and prevent #1 while having some complaining Yeah, difficult choice.
A reason of alice's re-balance was to avoid "easy gameplay out of convienience". such as the mobdrops aren't sold at spawn anymore. i personally think, it makes the game more fun this way, when you actually have to do something for the stuff you want (instead of setting up autoamted devices and wait until you have enough). this is also, how i experienced earlier alice versions. i personally enjoy the gameplay way more now. one isn't forced to rush the game to get the mega stuff- it just takes a little effort, but constantly! with the tinker's construct hammers or the thaumcraft-mega-pick (awakened ichor, i think) you are able to make a super fast one man quarry. and it doesn't even need power! i like, that i don't need to worry about "omg, i need more power to do this" and enjoy small steps of success way more. it means, that i have to get deeper into the different mods. not just to set up a good energy source, automining and processing. there are quite a few other upsides on no-automining, imo. IF it really would be enabled again (quarries or laser drill) i would go for it, too, no doubt. but i think i would loose quite a bunch of fun and interest. i know this kind of topic has been discussed quite often now " You can not tell others how to play the game", it's a sandbox after all. i just wanted to tell my opinion on that. :3 so my suggestion on that: take it as challenge! use your brains! poeple will always complain, no matter what you do. that's what i've learned from skc users.
I think digital miners would be fun, but I have no side in this... I don't really care either way, its not that hard to mine, or use auto mining. But again, who wouldn't want to be able to program a machine to suck all the diamonds out of a chunk!! Tiny alternative... but.... cough* witchery cough* has a transpose spell that sucks all of one type of ore from a small area....
We should, like, remove all mods and make it a vanilla server again. That way there aren't any mods that break the server. Or what we could do is close the server off to the public so we can actually trust people and don't need a customized server. Apparently whenever fun things are added or enabled, people will find ways to abuse and spam them. Who cares if other people can't play or no longer want to play because of it? This is why we can't have nice things.
I have been very vocal in supporting this in the past. However, my attitude on it has shifted quite a bit. The problem with automining is it accelerates and turns progression in the game into exponential growth. Thats not very good for the server, performance, and even your own enjoyment, in the long term. Sure, I can setup 1000x10^29 laser drills, but eventually. i'll get bored and not play anymore. With this, I need to mine for ma shit, always. I can't really complain since there is so many ways to make you mine faster.
Automining is already in. Wide-scale "lazy-ass" automining is disabled due to past abuse. Maybe we should not keep the "Alice" name in order to avoid confusion on what is expected in an industrial-oriented server. Tricky psychology but heh. (imho : yay for 1st law of thermodynamic ! no more magical overunity stuff w/ industrial stuff)
this expotantial abusement and mega automining only has been a thing in 1.5 and legacy 1.6. i personally don't think that those 2 versions are representative for alice itself. as i said, i experienced it another way
I undestand that people call it an industrial-oriented server. But this has been said before: sk never intended it to be a hardcore industrial-mod-only tech-tree-grinder server.
Been happier without automining, actually makes torches having a reason to be needed, metals to be used for a little more than machines, armor needing to worn, and people having to actually play.
Stil its there is sometimes about 70% of server afk waitong for ores to be procesed / gaining energy so atleast some things for mining .. like arcane bore / thigs from RC should be kept enabled cus they are requiring energy + in case of bore you need repair pick so ... if you telling thats creating ppl having lots of mats then ban also RC .. an then you can make server vanila and ban even villagers because you can farm emeralds. blame.
I personally feel like the mass automining diminished my fun. Now that it's not there I feel more accomplished every time I mine a bunch and process it and get another big machine, power source, etc., up and running. As for mob drops not being sold at spawn anymore, I'm not against removing most of it, but blaze rods are harder to get when people claim all the blaze spawners and block people out of them. I found a double spawner and was using it for a couple days and then other people came by and decided they were theirs. And ghasts seem more rare than I've ever seen on any server. I've only ever seen 2 in more than 2 hours of looking. Aside from that, I'm happy with the way things are.
Obviously there are many problems with automining. However I don't think the problem was automining, rather the problem being people playing so much they complete the game very quickly (as in, reach endgame). On the last 1.6 around 4 days in Neon had an awakened ichorium pick and gained an inventory full of diamonds, and it is because of this that people can make quarries extermley quickly.
People are just as rushy on this version as on the last, however, the rushiness gives you no infinite ressources this time.
With all the decorative mods I'd say it was a build server before a tech sever. 1.2.5 I spent more time figuring out how to automate things than building them. Same thing going forward, however it hasn't been till 1.5 that I myself started to focus more on building nice. I haven't picked a location I want to port my base to yet, but I do want to finish it.
Okay so correct if I'm wrong, but I didn't see all of chat so I don't know if this is already posted.... I personally think (Don't yell at me or give a lot of attitude) that energy in itself should be a little easier to get because there isn't automated mining then why is energy made harder. I might sound dumb and not know what I'm doing wrong, but things like steam takes a whole new mode to learn and yes I took the time to get steam running from rotary craft... Just thoughts don't bite me.
