dafaq you get off at? some people have very fixed income and dont have money to throw like i do look at klave0 he has a fixed income and has a few health disabilities so you go mow some laws for him and yes you can
Yeah, not anymore. Of course, Linux used to be more difficult, and if you have a server that runs without a GUI it still is more difficult (though WAY easier than 20 years ago). But Ubuntu has done a lot for Linux, and Suse linux which is pretty easy as well has been around way longer than Ubuntu, but still the thought of Linux being more difficult than Windows and having to use terminals all the time is stuck in people's heads. You can try to spread awareness all you want but of course it fails because nobody even wants to try linux. Anyway. My offer to write an SKCraft-tailored tutorial on installing a small Linux still stands. If people would want to try it we might not have to remove Binnie's.
yes your right my computer is old and i understand that. my computer is from the end of the single core generation (pentium 4 intel proseser). on the last server i was a bee user too but never had my priority's strait so i never got farther than emerald bees. i would rather not have extra bees and bees removed, and have people stop playing because if 2 people quit and 2 more people get to join what was the gain, i don't want to take away from other peoples experience just so i can play. but i do want to play so i guess what I'm saying is please consider me and other 32bit users
Call me crass, but I personally fall into that category of having health disabilities that prevent me from having a job or doing heavy physical labor (I have very severe epilepsy, among other conditions); thankfully I'm blessed with having rich overprotective parents that take care of me. Even if I wasn't in a well off situation however, I still think I'd be saying the same thing. I did note in my post that I can't speak for some peoples situations. The bottom line is that there are thousands of minecraft servers out there, modded, unmodded, heavily modded, etc. I consider SKcraft to be a heavily modded server, constantly being refreshed with new content and mod breakthroughs. If I am playing on a computer that is 5-8 years behind the average curve technology wise, I don't expect to be able to play new things that are released using the new technology that I refuse to or do not have the means to acquire. I do not expect to be able to play SKcraft on an outdated pc. A video game is a form of entertainment and entertainment is a form of luxury, either in the form of cost or time. Even the children that cant afford to kick around a soccer ball and instead have to use an empty can had to find both the time to play and the can to kick. In my OP I didn't even understand what the 32bit/64bit thing was talking about because of how long 64bit has been the norm among gamers. Obviously there are arguments for both sides of the case, but I think that in the end it really depends upon how many people are affected by the bug, and how feasible it is for them to upgrade their OS. If I'm not mistaken some hardware is actually compatible between both 32 and 64? I don't know. I'm not a techie. I really enjoy the Extra Bees mod, and I know there several people on the server that devote most of their time to it. I don't think any of us will quit if it's gone, but we'll definitely be losing a big part of what we enjoyed doing on the server. If it boils down to losing the mod for 1-3 people that can't play, I'd be a tiny bit saddened because it feels like we're taking a step backwards.
I would like to add my cents into the discussion surrounding this. My opinion is this: The vast majority of SKCraft's playerbase is able to play the mod pack, as is, without issue. There are 50 people online at the time I am writing this post. We have more than that as a total active population, since you're never going to have your entire playerbase online at the same time due to timezones and what not. I have only seen tell of a handful of people (3, based on the other thread) who are having issues with getting SKCraft to run at all on a 32-bit system. The affected portion of SKCraft's population therefore is, frankly, tiny. I am sorry that they are so affected, but more people use the mod than are locked out. I honestly feel that Binnie's mods should be left in the mod pack. To wit, no change.
How many people are affected by this bug? Why remove something for everyone if a low amount of people are affected by it?
I totally agree, which is why I'd rather try and help the affected players to get the game to run (through Linux) instead of the entire community having to do without Binnie's mods.
See, I want to keep extra bees, but I know that if I was in the 32-bit situation I would be annoyed at not being able to play. I'm not really sure where I'm going with this...
yes i understand what your saying and yes it would take away form other peoples experience and i don't want people to quit playing because of this (64bit users) but please try to look at it from our perspective.
This is the problem. Everyone who's having trouble due to a 32-bit Windows has a computer capable of running a 64-bit OS. They're just too stubborn to upgrade their OS. I was once in that situation as well. I thought Windows 7 was complete garbage until I bought a system with it pre-installed. Now I freaking love windows 7. It only took me a couple of weeks to adapt to it. As far as I'm concerned if a computer isn't capable of running 64-bit code then the CPU is probably too weak to get more than 5 to 10 fps with the modpack anyway. So I don't see the issue as a matter of not being able to afford a new computer. Even if that were the case, I got a computer with a quad core i7 processor and a 1080p LED monitor for $300 from my local pawn shop. Even if you can't afford $300 your local pawn or thrift shop can probably sell you something like a Core 2 Solo or AMD Athalon for dirt cheap. If it's a matter of the OS you can get a new full retail copy of Windows 7 Home Premium for $100 or less on Ebay. Pawn shop once again probably sells it for less, but it'd be hard to find one in stock. If you still can't afford it then you can dual boot Xubuntu like Suchtie has been offering to help with. Xubuntu is easy to use and is completely free. All you need is a blank CD/DVD and a CD or DVD burner which comes standard on most PCs or can be bought for $20. The method I use for running Ubuntu at the moment, which is even less hassle, is I run it under VirtualBox which doesn't even require a CD burner. You can also buy a USB flash drive for $10 and install it on there if your motherboard can boot from USB, which almost all 5-7 year old computers can. In the end my opinion is if a handful of people aren't willing to be flexible and use a different OS (even for free) then why should over 90% of the community be willing to flex and remove really amazing mods.
I have tried looking at it from your perspective, but in the end I come to the same conclusion. It's not right to take a step back in progress, for the sake of a very select few people that are living in the dark ages.
Now, considering that all the users CAN run 64-bit OS, and can run a free OS (i.e. it won't cost them to run 64-bit) I think that we should just stick with ExtraBees
Stop using Windows, and remove the wool from your eyes. Linux works, Windows doesn't GET A REAL OS (Been wanting to say that for ages)
True, punk. The whole 32bit and 64bit system needs to be gotten rid of and started a fresh. Some of the architecture is still from 8bit computers...
