After several hours of testing with a 32-bit version of Windows, while allocating the minimum 768 MB of memory and 64 MB of PermGen, I have only been able to load the modpack successfully up to the menu screen if Binnie's mods are removed. Binnie's mods include Extra Bees, Extra Trees and his core mod. That unfortunately begs the question: should we remove Binnie's mods in order to allow our 32-bit players to play? We'd like your input, so please post your thoughts on the issue as a reply to this thread. No final decision has been made yet regarding the removal of Binnie's mods. Be aware that we have not absolutely confirmed that the modpack does work once Binnie's mods have been removed. I plan to test the feasibility of multiplayer tomorrow. Post edited by SK.
Spend $90 and upgrade your PC to Windows 7 64bit. It's 2014, no one should be on 32bit anymore. Even my phone isn't 32bit... As for the mod, I don't do bees and I've never ever found any of the Binnie trees, so... but I hear they are awesome and without Binnie mods bees just isn't worth it in general. The problem seems to be a very small subset of players who will benefit in multiple ways from upgrading themselves rather than reduce mods further for everyone else.
Usually people who have a 64bit machine would already have 64bit windows, you can't just buy a 64bit OS... Minecraft isn't or isn't supposed to be a resource intensive game, and a lot of people only play Minecraft because it's the only thing they can play. You act like everyone buys computers every 3 years, its more like 5-7 for the average non-gamer. 5 years ago, 32 bit was the norm. This is also obvious in the large amount people who cannot play right now. From my point of view, I know very few people who use the extra bees mod or extra trees(I don't know what the core adds/does), or rely on it to have fun, sorry to those who do, but I feel like not being able to play at all outweighs two less mods.
i am one of the people affected by this and for me it would most likey force me to get a new computer (wich i have been considering. but would rather not. ) because my computer is from 2005 still runs most everything great but yes i run in to problems with things like this that need more power than my computer can give. thank you for putting this up cus i really wanted to play on the server.
I'm not going to vote because the poll isn't structured in a way that enables accurate voting; I don't want the mod to go but I'm not going to quit if it does. I wasn't even aware there was an issue keeping players from joining the server (how many people are we talking about exactly?). I really enjoy the Extra Bees mod, but I could care less about the trees and such. In the end if it is removed I'm sure I'll just move on to something like Thaumcraft, and it will surely give me more time to work on quests. The enjoyment of Extra Bees for me was that it gave a measurable goal to my minecrafting (Unlock all the Bees!). My opinion on the matter really comes down to this: How outdated is the "32 bit" thing? If we're talking about a very select few minority that are unable to play due to not having the means or being too stubborn to upgrade to whatever is needed, I don't think the mods should be removed. I can't speak for everyone's situations but if the "32 bit" thing is a very archaic and outdated system, and upgrading to a fix is cheap, go mow a few lawns and get the money to do it. Alice has had Extra Bees and such for a LOOOOOOOONG time. Have they been able to play in the other versions that have had it? callum, I don't know what type of situation you are in but a computer from 2005 is considered pretty old, especially if it's wasn't in the higher tier of tech when you bought it. Technology grows at extremely rapid paces in these last few decades, and I'd say it's reasonable to expect to have to replace or upgrade at least 1-2 components of your PC every 4 years now a days, and that's if you built it yourself. If you purchased a PC pre-built from a company like Dell you should probably be replacing the entire unit every 4-5 years. The bottom line is that I don't understand the severity of the issue so I can't determine what my reaction is.
Yes, that is indeed what we are discussing. Users with x86 (32-bit) operating systems aren't able to play on SKCraft at the present moment. As far as the actual discussion goes, just like Kylania already said, removing ExtraBees would almost be like killing the server's bee usage; the bee progression has little to no worth without the add-on. I was really looking forward to playing around with ExtraBees soon, it was going to be one of my main focus besides Thaumcraft. Not to mention, I really wanted to breed trees with ExtraTrees. Mostly for the sake of the brilliant woodworker, which allows you to create custom wooden planks and such. Now, as far as the vote goes, just like tiffy, I can't partake in that either. If there really are *that* many people having trouble with applications due to x86 systems, then removing the aforementioned mods would be a valid decision (even if the x86 systems are quite ancient now, even my mother uses a x64 system). I certainly hope that the situation doesn't come to removing the mods, I really enjoy them, but it certainly doesn't equate to me leaving the server in any shape or form.
This basically sums up what I wanted to say to this. About solutions - like I already mentioned elsewhere, I could write a tutorial with pictures on how to set up a small Linux partition. Installing something user-friendly like Xubuntu alongside Windows takes less than an hour, and if the 32-bit users are willing to do that, we might not have to remove Binnie's mods. (These kinds of guides exist already but they are usually quite extensive and cover topics we don't have to care about, I would write it so that the installation is fast and omits everything we don't need.)
I think my opinion on the matter is slowly changing to this: If your computer cant handle a 64 bit operating system + minecraft... you probably have no business playing such a heavily modded server I'll sit in the corner now.
^ While I agree, installing Linux would help. It's a lot faster than Windows and certainly not as "hacky" or difficult as everyone seems to think.
This statement is not true, take a look at the other 32bit thread you will see that every person in there has a CPU capable of 64bit instructions but is being used under a 32bit OS. In most cases with Windows 7 the 32bit key can be used to activate a 64bit copy and vice versa. Unfortunately every seems to be on XP!
Have you tried testing with min:512, max:768, perm gen:256? that's what I use, although I am not running 32-bit at all; with any other settings I would crash so this might work for 32 bit as well?
I just want to play .... I am also one of those people stuck on a 32 bit system .. I run Windows XP cause When i bought my computer I knew My way around Xp like the back of my hand ( or so I've been told that was My reasoning ) Personally when i woke Up in a Homeless shelter with amnesia and later discovered a Lot of my things Ina friends basement I was Just thrilled I had a computer. It not THAT old ( 4 or 5 years ) though Punk often refers to it as my Toaster, But this comes from a guy who stole an NSA Drone tracking Module to use for a PC with 16 widescreen TV ' that Not only allow him to play Minecraft and left for dead 2 simultaneously But also track the were abouts of everyone he is playing with and call a drone strike in on anyone who he deems a Noob and got him fragged ....... while I would hate to see anyone else's gaming experience suffer for the lack of a ( singular) mod pack I also want to be able to come in and help My friends set up our area. Otherwise They will just assault some villagers area and set up shop there in.. ( again - LOL love ya guys You Know I'm just playing right?) Hope to see you all soon , and if not I understand. ( and as for go mow a few lawns remark.... Um I don't know where YOU are but most of Northern N. America is covered in Snow Buddy )
What's up with with this 32-bit thing? My game works out just fine...I just have this (China)internet lag and frame freezes probably due to me playing with the intel-integrated graphics card.
