7z makes it easy to separate files into sections, which would help this possible issue but not fix it completely. I have no idea what UHARC guis can do about that. ================== Path told me it's 16GB not compressed, unless I misunderstood him. We'll see I guess. EDIT: If anyone knows the size of the map (X by Y chunks) let me know, I'm going to run some tests real quick
Indeed. I'm going to generate a 10k x 10k chunks world, attempt to compress it as much as possible in 4GB volumes. Then I'll see what kind of time/space/effort it will take to do this edit: a 200MB world compressed to 114MB with 7Z LZMA and 118MB with UHARC
Indeed. I was mainly trying to find out if MC worlds are compressible enough (if they have a bunch of repeating data basically). Add on the tile data and it should be somewhat similar
Well being that compression is an option even if we can shave 1.5GB off it will fit in a google drive and also I think it will be a good idea that I make it into 1GB parts to reduce the chance of corruption on upload for me and download for you guys
That does mean there will be about 15 downloads but much less risk after. Sorry for double posting on phone
If you are willing to do this that will be great although it will most likely rape the bandwidth of it and also I can try shove it on google drive first that way it won't hurt anyone's bandwidth.
If you were to put it on let's say your own webserver. I doubt you have lots and lots and lots of bandwidth (Several terabytes)
I've seen a larger community torrent an old 5GB world file, and if whatever torrent system they used supports 5GB it would well support 16GB. We could also chunk it, as Path suggested
Also I know of a hosting provider that for $4.84/month gives you unlimited filespace and unlimited bandwidth, so that could be a cheap way of temporarily hosting the world
Exactly. I will be seeding from at least one server, and home until everyone that wants the map has it. Making a torrent is easy, and no one has to deal with a host's requirements/limitations.
I can see using a torrent if people are going to seed from a server. I personally don't have the upload speed to seed a torrent effectively but every bit counts and I would be willing to for a while. I'd seed from my dedi too but they stuck a shitty bandwidth limit on it.
I would be seeding it as well temporarily. If everyone was to contribute we could have a good 20 seeds (Some including servers) which would give a pretty good download speed
