Yea we totally need this. -Reason-For those of us to chat on SKcraft with reasons like: -Want to tell your partner to take the food out of the furnace but doesn't wanna take 5 mins to load up your game -Just chat while you are doing something -Bored. -No access to computer -ETC.
We have seen this before, but it didn't get added. I don't know the exact reasons, gotta ask sk. Probably because of things like spammers, but we'll see.
I think one of the reasons it wasn't added, was that enough people talking on IRC would be equal to spam for anyone who would have it installed. Can't remember for sure, it was a long time it was last suggested.
I feel like this mod is just a way to generate copious amounts of chat spam, honestly. I agree it'd be nice for people who were offline and wanted to chat, but 1) it's referred "in game chat" for a reason, and 2) we already have ways for users to communicate when not on Alice (you're using one of them right now). Not to mention, last time I even bothered checking the IRC channel, it was completely ded.

He's got you there zoom. This would make it so less people load their bases just to chat. (which i used to do constantly) Though, I don't have any figures for how often this happens or if it is even a significant drag on the server. Also, don't you think it would be nice if there was a channel just for people who want to talk bs or non minecraft specific topics? It already happens, designating an area would keep people who don't want to read spam, from seeing it. What about "stupid" questions we've all heard or in my case asked like "what does (x) do?, how many cows per chunk?, does anyone know if (y) is (z)?, Where is (q) biome?, etc..." If they go to irc channel they could just ask and have a decent amount of people to answer who want to answer and then no one is bothered. Win freaken win if you ask me and would solve a problem that has been around for a while. Also as far as spam goes I'm not sure how the chat system works on alice but with the channel systems, isn't there a way to preset people to a channel once they log in or set a default channel for irc people? I'm already hearing "that would be too much work to add a mod that only some people would use" but in the long run it could help server performance, and boost involvement in the community. After all, everybody likes less server lag, right? Just my two cents on the subject.
Actually, no: 1) It's called in game chat because it's in game, for players in game. 2) There are also other methods outside skcraft (such as Skype) that work for that 3) Yes, IRC is dead, which means now it won't generate much spam. But if IRC became active because of this mod, then it would begin to generate spam. Catch 22. Also, we don't have a (viable) way of controlling who can join the IRC channel and chat in game, and users who have been banned or had their applications rejected could easily spam questions through IRC, and someone would have to take the time to ban them from the IRC channel as a result (which, since IRC bans are based on the hostmask and/or ip, and most home internet users have dynamic IPs, means they could very easily circumvent any ban on the IRC channel by powering down their modem for a couple minutes so it gets a new IP). Now, it appears the mod author is adding commands to allow the IRC bans/kicks to be possible without having to actually connect to IRC, but still the same problem applies with the way IRC bans work.
No, you can't. And I don't complain about people spamming TS because nobody spams TS honestly (in fact, it's ded 90% of the time it seems). :/ Kira: I agree 100%.
I remember some guy went on to the TS one day complaining about being banned from like forever long ago, then he says SK doesn't know how to run a server because SK wouldn't let him back onto the server...
Well we have tested out a bukkit plugin called PurpleIRC and it seems to be pretty good. It is up to sk for the final verdict on whether we will see implementation or not.
Just remember that alot of the Minecraft servers hooked into IRC has a crap ton of spam in their chat from players, and people on IRC. Perhaps add the option for in-game people to turn it off?
We've been using MCPC+ for several versions. BukkitForge died a while ago. But Forge+Bukkit in general never left.
