As of late, there has been some issues regarding someone bringing the server TPS to it's knees with floodlights. While it was been a topic of discussion for a while (and some action was taken, but was uneventful), the mod GregsLighting (The mod that adds the floodlights) has continued to be an issue even into 1.5. So with the update for factorization that allows us to add it back for Alice 1.5. We have decided to drop GregsLighting in favor of Factorizations own Wrath lamps. We apologize for this being so sudden, but we feel it was the right course of action. This change will occur with the next 1.4 client update (which should be tomorrow if all goes according to plan), and will continue into 1.5. We will continue to watch it, but unless we see significant improvements, it will not be seen on Alice anytime in the near future.
They create vast amounts of lighting block updates and they are not very well optimized. At least this is how I understand it.
Not exactly. I've seen numbers ranging from 20-128 in a single place, and seen no problems whatsoever. The problems only arise when they are constantly being turned on and off.
Eh Floodlights are pretty cheap. And while we did throw the idea around; There is no way we can safely do it without removing all other wrath lamps form the world. So that's a no, it's not very much to lost anyways.
What about mIDAS? I'm not worried about them being cheap at all; just the fact that every place with Floodlights will suddenly go dark and sheetons of mob spawns going on eating the server TPS until wraithlamps can be made.
I highly doubt that mobs spawning will eat any of the TPS if it's already very low. But no, thee update will go as planned and people will just have to replace where the floodlights were, with wrath lamps.
Everything is still lit, even if there are no flood lights, unless something triggers a physics update.
