I heard that RedPower 2 might be removed due to Eloraam being inactive. She said on Twitter that she hasn't forgotten about the update, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she's actually working on it... Anyways, I happened to stumble upon Immibis' mod thread and there I found two mods which can cover up at least two of the three main parts of RedPower: the microblocks and the tubes. If we actually need to replace RedPower, these two would be useful as replacements. We are already using Immibis' TubeStuff mod which means that the Immibis Core mod is already installed, so setting up his Microblocks and InfiniTubes mods probably requires no additional work. Shove 'em into the modpack and we should be good! I didn't find a replacement for RP2's main part, the redstone stuff, yet... they will be sorely missed but I think we can find workarounds from some of the already installed mods. Still, I hope that Eloraam releases an update quickly. Immibis' Microblocks and InfiniTubes are good, but they're ugly (Immibis can't texture well) and are based upon the functionality of RP2. InfiniTubes might good to have anyway though because you can sort items by assigning them a text label - that would be very easy to work with. TL;DR: Immibis' Microblocks and InfiniTubes can be used as replacements for two of RP2's functions.
This is something that would fit in the "Suggest a mod/update" thread better. But still, Microblocks is already added and we have enough different ways for transporting item. We have most things replaced that RP2 provides: World gen, microblocks, red wire/insulated wire and the logic things. The only things missing are frames, the only machines I can remember that are useful are the sorting ones, but we have AE that does that even better (maybe a bit more expensive, but nothing too big). So...not a big deal ^^
I didn't see a dedicated thread for this, I just saw other people posting mod suggestions here and I figured I should do that as well... and I don't know much about the current development status either. If there are already replacements it's all good. I love the RP2 sorting stuff though and I will sorely miss them
It's not a big deal ^^ And don't worry, even though AE is more expensive, it's more customizable and more reliable than the RP2 stuff. You just have to get used to it ^^
These threads make me mad there's so much that eloraam's mod add's that people take for granted theirs no quick fix / replacement especially for something so well made and relatively bug free just to name a few things people ignore -volcano's -marble -large rubber trees -ruby, emerald and sapphire gemstone's -redwire -pipes -pumps and liquid tubes -forth computers -bundled cable -framework for wireless red stone (i believe the dev is making it stand alone if it's not already) -bluelectricity -micro blocks -early game to late item management and sorting -filter's - not and xor nand etc etc gates -mossy cobble spreads when next to cobble and water -windmills there freaking adorable -FRAMES! -etc etc etc etc i could go on and on and on can we please stop all the threads about replacing red power 2 =/ Tl;Dr Red powers awesome i think too many people are taking it for granted.
Yeah redpower is awesome. But with the amount of time people have had, there is already replacements for nearly all of RP2's functions. And I can point out nearly all of the things there are replacements for, minus most of the machines. So in order of what you said. Volcanoes: No need, they were ugly, especially when the generation fucked up and cut them off chunk-wise. Railcraft abyssal geodes are much better. Marble: NumiRP adds the exact same, as does Railcraft in the fashion of generation for both. Large rubber trees: Just like volcanoes, they were an eyesore. It was slightly better when they only gen'ed in the jungle, but they were still useless. Ruby, emerald and sapphire: NumiRP adds the exact same things, with also the use for tools etc. Redwire: Immibis is doing something the same called Redlogic. While it is still new, he's already added a lot of what is need, like bundled cable, all of the wires RP2 adds except jacketed. And the logic circuits. Tubes*: They were laggy and depreciated with the use of AE. Pumps and liquid 'tubes':We've got the BC pumps, and with the new ExtraUtilites, it adds a near lag-less lava pump. Bundled Cable: Again, RedLogic by Immibis adds it. Forth computers: They were much harder to use and were just useless with the addition of ComputerCraft. Wireless Redstone: As you said, chickenbones is working on making it freestanding. But you can use the new 1.5 GT for wireless redstone with the addition of plates and covers. Bluetricity: It was really buggy in 1.4.7 with how it transported it's power through the cable and it was just all-around over-thought. MicroBlocks: Immibis' Microblocks are 1,000,000 times better then RP2 ones. Since you can cover almost any cable and any pipe with them. And for what you cannot cover, there is an API that you can add them to. Item management/sorting: While there is not a easy way to do this, AE still accomplishes this easily, even if you might have to work a little harder for it. Filters: AE accomplishes this in a much nicer way. Logic Circuit: As I said before, RedLogic adds this, with the exception of a few of the cells. Mossy Cobblestone: There are recipes in Thermal expansion to create it with the liquid transposer in 1.5. WindMills: They are awesome and 'adorable' but they can cause lag if you use too many. Frames: There are 2 mods that already accomplish the ability of frames. the first is RedstoneInMotion and the second is TrussMod. While both have their quirks and are awesome. They will undoubtedly not be seen on the server for a while yet, since they are both in alpha and are very buggy. While I do agree that the thread have to stop. We are undoubtedly going to update to 1.5 and lose RedPower2. That much is certain. -edit- And I should add. All mods that I mentioned, with the exception of the frame-like mods. Are all accepted to be added in 1.5.
