I would say that flexibility trumps micromanagement. The Chart is a good way to regulate pricing but regulating pricing diminishes the ideal of opportunity of individual determination and prevents the dynamic change that markets use now to keep goods flowing. In regard to the earlier concern about hacking, as long as there is a segregation of client and server (and perhaps a verifier) and that the server treats all incoming messages as possibly malicious, there should be no problems with unauthorized access. Rednet messages, if directed at a single ID cannot be intercepted by others. Also, putting physical locks on the server and verifier can avert direct ingame tampering. If you set a secure FTP password then why should there be any concern of access in that form? EDIT: @GK Can you provide some basic computer and POS setup details and a overview of a sample sale exchange? Thanks.
As cool an idea as it is. I'm not sure I'd like to store my wealth as an imaginary number in a database. I'm pro barter and enjoy the idea of having a big pile of gold bars in a safe somewhere under my mattress! Best of luck to the bankers all the same!
I have the solutions to your woes! Don't use the system if you don't trust it. This may become the preferred way of trade on this server; however, it is not going to completely replace other methods of trade which will remain completely valid. And please, seriously read previous posts. There have already been posts about this...
I like the sound of this and maybe the currency converting npc is a good idea. Personally there isn't many things aren't easy to get like quartz ore, it is reasonably easy to obtain after a few minutes of mining if you look in the right spot. That's my input. Must say I like the increasing use of cc in the server I just wish that I was better with lua myself
We had many discussions about a currency on skcraft. what exactly would be the difference to this? http://skcraft.com/threads/fiat-money-k.1631/page-2#post-16288 Edit: http://skcraft.com/threads/alice-soul-shards-and-a-physical-currency-mod.1305/
I think it's because this conversation is trying to revolve around the topic of not requiring any moderator/administrator interaction...
This topic is mainly to brainstorm the bank system, and like hsun said, not requiring any mod/admin interaction.
A combo of physical and computer currency would work. I had an idea where you have a central bank building where you come and then go to a counter/'hole in the wall' where there is a computer, a printer and a player detector. So you go to the computer and log in via the player detector and then choose to either deposit an item (transposer connected to an item detector with the computer set up to react to the redstone output) and then that will add to the central database of every single player that registers for a bank account (your first time at the computer will take you to a registration wizard) and that will register you in the database with some money so that you can start off on the banking system. To take out money, when you select the choice in the GUI, you could choose how much you would want to take out and then the printer would print you a note containing A) how much the note is worth and B) your name. At the store, first you would log into the buying system at a checkout that would log you in and thenyou would throw the item into a transposer that would feed it into a computer that would read the note and then either put it into an enderchest that would re-write the note for the owner of the shop, or if it does not match the amount needed or is from another player would display a prompt on the screen and then ask for more. If the note is from another player then the money would go into a different enderchest and then be deposited into a lost and found system. Or you can cancel the trade and go back to square one. I, however, am not really good with lua or cc so I am not able to do anything much toward this project, but I'm sure other people out there are good enough to do something like this and would give my idea a try. Also, some of the things on this list may not be possible, I have no idea . EDIT: The issue of people printing their own currency. *Facepalm*
um buttons it might also be good to have slightly larger shop sizes it gets a little cramped the way it currently is
