The following things will happen that will coincide with MC 1.2's release: James and Vincent's worlds will be reset. Vincent and James may merge OR Vincent and Alice may merge.
Okay... will everything get reset or can we ship some items/buildings over to the new world? I wouldn't mind it if Vincent and Alice would merge, because there are just 5-10 players playing there ... on different times... Maybe i will go to Alice even if you don't merge them together (but no jungle biomes right? :/).
If you merge Vincent and James can we expect them to be down for a few days in addition to the time it takes after every update for you to get things back up and running again or, are you just planning on running that none SKed MC untill you get all the bugs worked out? And how are you planning on working in the 1.2 update bioms and things into the Alice server cause I know you always take parts of the updates and aply them to the older server versions even if it's not a total update.
If vincent and alice merge will we only have a boring creative server and a modded server? If so . i want vincent and james to merge
I know! You should put a vote doohickey to find out what people think about it! That is, if you even care about that...
I'd personally like to see James and Vincent merge. Alice should stay separate (although on the same machine this time?) because it will always be one version behind the two "vanilla" servers. If Vincent and James merge, there should be a command or nexus to take you between the creative and survival worlds. Your inventory would be wiped and your game mode would change as needed when you warp between worlds. Oh, James should be focused on a themed world instead of test worlds...
Most people only play on Alice and don't care about Vincent or James, so a vote would not give any useful information. I do not want to merge Vincent and Alice primarily because Alice is stuck behind in MC versions indefinitely. On the other hand, James and Vincent are two entirely different beasts. I might want to let people move over buildings from the older Vincent world to the newer one.
I like that idea! Doing all of Skyrim would be even better It would also be neat (from an administrative standpoint) to have global permissions nodes for a world to revoke read and/or write access to either the creative or survival world...
Yeah I think I would like to see the same thing but I don't know about the themed idea cause some people (me included) have a hard time matching looks and building shapes to that of other players thus, the theme of the area would quickly be lost with several players working on it. You might be able to get away with local areas having one theme or another with a small handfull of players but not an entire map.
Fair enough, but we've done it before and we can most certainly do it again. We used to (and still to an extent) took pride in the fact that we built detailed and immense creations. I'd personally like to see James go back to that.
Yeah doing that on a creative server is fine and MUCH easyer then it would be on a servival map and yeah as long as it was the right players doing it, nearly all of the past themed areas/maps looked awsome but then only a handful of players can do that together and the servers have how many players now.
Well putting it that way basicly says to people "If you can't play the way we want you to then don't bother joining our server" and I don't think thats exactly what SK wants to be telling people.
if the server's admins decide they want to have a special theme then the rest of the players should go by that theme.. Anyways..if that's a problem we can always just mark a special place in the map for the skyrim world.. so that people who cant build in theme dont have to build where the themed world is
Plenty of server do this. In fact, this server used to do it before the application process became more open.
Yeah I know that I was here almost since the beggining but like gretar123 just said that areas were placed aside for the people who couldn't match the theme idea or the themed area was moved away from spawn so that new people and bad builders wouldn't throw off the theme and grief. If the same idea is carried on then things will be fine but to just flat out say that people have to build exactly this way or that way will drop the number of players and apps and rais the over all griefing. I don't rely care much since I only play on Alice as of now and go to personal servers for anything else but I'm trying to look out for the general REP of SK's servers at the same time.
While I'd like to have a theme again, I don't want to marginalize a group of builders. Though to be honest, the application process is nearly the same as before. It's just now a lot more streamlined.
I think I would prefer to see James and Vincent merge, although those are the 2 original servers, Neither seems to be as popular as Alice currently. Although with v1.2 members are more than likely going to want to explore the new features in creative mode, I can't see it being something that sticks. I agree with TexasGamer that it would be more efficient if a creative area was added inside the Vincent server where players can go text build and experiment etc. I know that there is a way to do this for CanaryMod servers but I'm not sure if the feature is currently available for Bukkit. I'm not sure I like the idea of an entire server dedicated to a theme. If you look at a server like Vincent, you can see that there are already lots of sub-themed areas on the map. I think having it like this is better because it means that more players can play on the server without having to know lots about the theme and it allows a wide variety of sub-themes to develop on their own like underground cities, underwater cities, massive castles, jungle villages etc.
