So, I had an old friend come on the other day and he saw the really cool village (i'll post pics when we are done) and said we are raping the land because no one will be living there. My friend Kolrot and I like to build creative things, as well, as having all the machines, mining and thaumcrafting. So, is it wrong to build villages because you want to? We plan on staffing the villages with villagers and so forth. What do you think?

    wut?

If 'land' in Minecraft was limited like IRL then, yes it would be an abuse of limited resources.
If there were natural habitats in Minecraft like IRL then, yes it would be destructive to the creatures that live there.

THIS. IS. MINECRAFT. not real life. It is a place to be creative and enjoy building things because there are no consequences to the 'land' around you. The best thing about sandbox games is that you can create and destroy worlds at your whim. If your friend wants to go protect the land he should go find some rubber trees in a swamp at -xxx, +yyyy and keep the evil city builders at bay. Otherwise, you just built an awesome village and I would love to see some pics.

how do you get villagers in your custom village? I mean you can't lure them there with wheat or an apple. Do we sell villager spawn eggs or something?

I don't live anywhere near a populated village, not sure where one is. even the villages in Mining world is vacant now it seems.

There is no easy way, but you can use stuff like teleporters and mincarts to transport them.

No you cannot, that';s the whole reason you're able to buy most of the spawn eggs at spawn market.

I think I would pay 2 or 3 diamonds for each villager egg at spawn!

sorry for high-jacking your thread Michelle :(

we have a zombie spawner and we cure the zombie villagers!! You throw a potion of weakness on them, then you give them a golden apple, and in I think 5 mins, they will turn back into villagers.. I thought everyone knew this.

very far from it, the village looks wonderful, and the whole point of playing minecraft is building :) now if you made 10k 1x1 towers, then that might be raping the land...

Supposedly you can also somewhat "invite" and I use that term loosely, villagers to your village. Ripped from minecraftwiki.net:

Villagers will mate depending on the number of valid doors. A valid door is any door (within the city radius) where the number of "outside" spaces within 5 blocks (in a straight line) on one side of the door is not the same as the number of "outside" spaces within 5 blocks on the other side of the door. A space is considered to be "outside" if it is hit by the sun during the day, i.e. it is transparent, and has nothing but transparent blocks above it all the way to the sky. (This means that starting a village deep underground, such as in a cavern or buried ravine, is not feasible.) Notice that a door is not a valid door without a roof on one side, or with equal amount of roof on both sides. Sometimes the villager AI (such as mating and housing) doesn't behave as expected until the game is restarted (as in save and quit, then reload the world).
Once housing has been established, villagers will then mate until the number of adult villagers equals 35% of the number of doors. Any remaining children will grow up as usual, resulting in a total number of adult villagers somewhere above one third of the number of nearby wooden doors. The type of villager that the child is doesn't depend on what type the parents are, e.g., two farmer villagers can have a child that is any of the occupations. Unlike other breed-able mobs, the parents and child have no personal interactions other than socializing. It takes exactly 20 minutes for a villager-baby to grow up to an adult.

In my experience, which ties into my logic. If something is ugly, like what nobotious said, then it would have to count as rape. But if it's something as awesome and captivating as what you have spent time building. I would definitely 100,000% say that it's not rape.

I definitely have to say coming over to your area is very nice, and cozy, kind of makes me want to live there if it was real life. :)

Because the land cannot consent to you building on it, all buildings are rape. In fact, simply walking upon the land rapes it. You didn't even ask you monster.

I don't understand how making something that awesome would be considered rape of the land? It's using the land, making it awesome.
