    Coming Soon to the Bazaar!!
    Alrighty, where to start?

Well I Ghostpotato and Smart panda had the idea of a New market. Much different from the bazaar though. We had originally hoped to make it a exclusive place (like the black market, even started calling it that) and we began construction. Now since that name has been taken I have renamed it after what inspired the concept to begin with, The Grand Exchange from RuneScape (the GE).

    How It works
How the GE would function is simply this, A large open room with CC monitors/info panels(depends what works/looks nicer) on each wall. On one side of the room is the Buying wall and the other Selling. Say you wanted to buy something, you would walk to the terminal/panel for the buying wall and open up the interface. you would then type your username, what you want to buy, and the date (so we can remove trades after 'X' amount of days) and close out. Same for selling except on the other wall. Then if someone comes along and has what you want to buy or wants what your selling and are willing to trade they would check to see if you were on and barter with you.
    Also accepting Ideas!
I have some ideas about how this would work but I'm open to new ones!
OK now that I've rambled on enough and used up precious time you could spend playing the game. Get back to playing!!

What's the point if we have the bazaar?

Not everyone has a shop in the bazaar plus the bazaar is severely limited to people restocking their tradomats. neither of those things would be a problem at the GE.

My opinion on this is that we already have a player bazaar, this to me sounds like an add-on at best. Most everything can be found there already, however I have noticed a few people offering set ups for things such as alvearies, and nuclear reactors. Maybe you could ask the bazaar managers if they would be ok with you setting up an idea like this for the bazaar itself. Hell even showing the different prices and who has what in stock could be a welcome addition to the bazaar in my opinion, because when mostly buying things in real life, it is good to check competition. It could also show the different deals like alveary, nuclear reactor setups, as well as services such as harvesting, loading the world or whatever.

I was planning on asking the bazaar managers if I could make this a add-on of sorts. I still like the idea of the GE style bartering trade system but I like your idea of the Competition Calculator of sorts and a monitor of who has what in their shops. As far as the setups go I think that they could be allowed on a Trade-smith type board that shows peoples offers of work.

    Thanks for your input

I like this idea over the bazaar, but I also feel this could be better accomplished with a plugin/mod, I'm sure their is one out there.

So many things that we have on this server can be accomplished with a mod/plugin. The bazaar for example can be accomplished by a mod where you can 'sell' things to the server. They kill the fun thou plus there is a very slim chance if any that SK will add it.

We just need a basic shop sign plugin. Two admin shop signs to convert a silk touch only item (like amber bearing stone) to and from credits would be the only 'configuration' needed. Trying to implement a currency without official support is a massive undertaking.

It's a shame really. Trading would be so much better if we had currency.

Do you know why they make plugins like that? Because it can't be done in Vanilla. We can do it with mods, glitch. I don't think it would be a massive undertaking at all considering the things we have like warded stone, lock signs, and chunk claiming. The reason we couldn't do this before is because (I think) we got too complicated with trying to find things that couldn't be farmed and set a price for them. We should've got the basic framework for it done then start going in-depth to whats worth what. With a single item being converted, I wouldn't imagine it to be that hard at all.

The concept is simple, implementing it is not. After considering it, I came to he conclusion that there was no good way to make it scale in a community market where anyone can sell items.

The question is whether anyone wants to spend the hours needed to do it, when any one of a half dozen mods would do the job better, in a fraction of the time. So far the answer has been no.

If that's your logic, then we should remove Gregtech because people don't want to spend hours doing stuff when IC2 is 'better' in that you can do the same thing in a fraction of the time.

Seriously thou I was willing to spend time to help do it but then complications arose in TS that caused that digi bank thread to go cold. The biggest thing we were trying to figure out was finding items that people can convert into currency but if we just use Amber Stone, that makes things alot simpler.

Your analogy is flawed, but honestly I'm not inclined to argue this point by point. If you want to design a currency based trading system, no one is standing in your way.

    Notice the keyword:
If no one is interested, then I won't do it.

Enable them. As simple as that. I've been through the config files.

They would need a custom crafting recipe. If they could be made from non-silk touch material, the currency would inflate rapidly, and have no value. On top of that, they are a pain to move around. That's why an simple currency mod with shop signs would be nice.

maybe, give every current player 100 currency. Every new player gets 50 currency (bag of electrical items?).

Anyways ignoring the logistics of writing the code for this, I feel as though this would give players a good chance to request goods that they need specifically.

INSTEAD of saying for an hour on end "Is anyone selling 500 X I needs it."
They can just go to the Grand Exchange, enter the item they want and how many of that item. If that item is already up for sale in the Grand Exchange than the player can pay the required currency and receive their goods.

As for the player who was selling,
Any player who has excess goods can put their items in this Grand Exchange and set a desired price for their goods. When these items are bought the player can return to the Grand Exchange and receive their currency.

    TL;DR

Put items in for desired amount.
    and / or
    ask for desired items

Noone knows who they received the items from. Just that they were merely up for sale.

    </end>

    <more>
As for people who hoard their money/people who don't need to buy anything/people who sell and don't buy/banned/ and unspent money in general, there would need to be an occasional event where more money would be distributed to the economy. Either given out by server ops or earned through a monthly(-ish) event.

    Just my opinion

Using a silk touch only item for currency exchange seems cleaner and would allow the total currency to grow (or shrink) without intervention. Money hording actually becomes a good thing if currency creation is possible. There is no need to micro manage the currency as long as it's not devalued by automation.

Hmm, Sounds like that would be fair glitch.
