Personally think about it from a new player prospective... if you just join the server and see that most of the players online are alts and afk you soon realize that the population of the server is quite small and people are using alts to make the server look bigger then it really is. Not saying SKcraft is doing that but most servers do that. That's another reason why I hate alts. Alts hog server resources and block the amount of players that can join the server.. Meaning if the server is almost cap and most them are alts that's not fair to the other players that want to play. That statement is only true IF we reach max cap. I've seen it close a few times and most of it was AFK alts/players. If you're going to AFK in a video for HOURS and HOURS log off. AFKing for 2-3 hours is fine that way you can get your machines to produce what you need, bees to reproduce(if they aren't automated), etc. Some people AFK for 24 hours or so (including restarts by logging back on) which is quite pointless because there is no need to be logged afk into a game for 24+ hours. You're machines have already produced what they need to during that time even if you have a crap ton of stuff automated to craft in it.
No one is trying to make the population look big with alts here. You're confusing us with servers that care about 'popularity', votes, or ranking. From what I have seen, afk's here are mostly players stay logged on when they are done playing. Since there are no afk rules, and sometimes only a few restarts a day, the afk players can pile up. I would like to see more frequent automatic restarts, but afk rules are a pain to enforce, and probably are not worth it.
No if you read the entire thing I said instead of quoting bits a pieces...you would see that I said that "Not saying SKcraft is doing that but most servers do that." If you are going to quote something I said...Don't rip out pieces. >.>
I did not care to quote the entire mega paragraph, but I did read it. "Not saying SKcraft is doing that but" implies it. No need to get all ruffled.
I didn't imply anything. Don't assume it's that easy. I'm not ruffled but don't misquote me and make me look bad. Skcraft is NOT doing that but I mentioned the idea of how some servers do. Most people who play other servers are use to alts being used for that reason so on a server where alts are allowed and no afk kick system...some people MIGHT assume that.
Now you have me worried. Do you often have feelings that others are out to get you, or am I a special case? I copied the part of your rather long post that seemed to be relevant. There was no intent to 'misquote' you. If anyone reading this thread formed a negative impression of Soraffe from what I said, please reconsider. And for god's sake, don't say anyhing; He's liable to jump down your throat at the least provocation.
Or a radical idea Get immibis anchors, set the limit of 1x1 fuel=true, and limit to 3 per person. The dimensional anchor actually uses a variety of fuel and none of the fuels last as long as the W.A. fuel. Also, maybe kick people who are AFK after 30 mins during these times, so people can't just use alts. As far as my opinion, anchors are somewhat necessary, because they allow people to use items such as tesseracts, without needing to go through one million different ways to accomplish something. That and most people do use remote orderers, or logi pipes in general, anchors help greatly with that.
The problem with with afk kicking is that it's easy to circumvent. Then there need to be anti-afk rules, and then we are like every public server out there, with mods spending all their time trying to catch players afk botting.
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic...nitubes-5401-liquid-xp-5401-microblocks-5408/ There's the link for the anchors, check under spoiler for Dimensional Anchors for more information. The other reason they are better in my opinion is because they allow Sk or the server OP's to basically customize them, fuels by default are less, i.e. 16 ender pearls only loads a 1x1 chunk loader for 4 hours, & since fuels are controlled by how many chunks are being loaded, we could even allow either a maximum # of anchors, or a maximum # of chunks and once you reach either cap, you cannot place anymore anchors. As far as AFKer's, I'm agreeing with the OP, send them to spawn.
While that would be a great idea if you could only do it after a certain amount of time (which I'm not doubting that it cannot be done), but if it sent them to spawn as soon as they afk, that would be REALLY annoying really quick, because there are often people who just quickly go afk to do stuff IRL with the intention of coming back soon.
Having it wait longer won't help either. I AFK for hours at a time (never more than 3) to do other things but I leave my laptop in a place I can glance at from time to time so I can see if the server restarted.
how would that be a problem then? either you move every ten minutes or so or you get sent to spawn. OR use the chunkloaders... OR just don't afk. That's the problem we try to discuss here, don't we?
Better yet when they return there automatically returned to where they where of course people could write a script to move so idk that this woould work i hate to say it but perhaps a capatcha sort of test obviously not all hard to read
Put them in a room with an advanced computer monitor and make them click on a random dot that appears to be teleported back. Of course programming the server to read those events is questionable.
I liked Mad's Idea about sending them to spawn. But how about have an AFK jail somewhere and they get sent after they are AFK so more than an hour or so. OR better yet, send them to an arena where thye can be freely be killed by someone. > That will make the players not want to leave thmeselves logged of for too long. Just an idea.
And yet again are my posts ignored by the general populace. If I was going to play on a server, I play here because of the community and freedom. When you take away some freedom, you make this server less attractive to sustained play. When people are not sustained, then the community becomes a bunch of people cycling through the system, leaving when the wait becomes to unbearable. Please, no AFK-ban, -kick, -tp, -kill, etc. because it may sound like a great idea in the moment but many, many people here are particularly prone to shallow thinking.
