I say just disable the use of multiple alts...at most ONE alt...I hate alts. I get it from the server I was a mod on. Alts (especially on a server like this which gives you free electric stuff and stuff for joining) can get you loads of stuff pretty quick. Especially if some machines can dupe items or w/e having two beings doing the same thing can result in nasty things. I don't thinking disabling world anchors will help but merely limit them and have staff kick inactive alts after a period of time. There is no longer a need for alts since we have world anchors and quite a few people are just leaving alts in the public XP farm and soaking up XP and then get pissed at everyone because that alt died some time within the 24 hours that they were sitting there afk.
Actually Blaise brings up a good point and a good question. Agreed on the 2 or 3 W.A. limit, it definitely helps for those of us without alts, and helps out with server stress. My good question is how do quarries work in terms of chunk loading, like does it keep the chunks open or does it keep the machine loaded?
I think that all of this talk is on a unstable foundation. Nobody here is speaking on the topic that things may be taking excessively long. I know personally that I leave my account logged on sometimes so that some shitty GregTech contraption can take its goddamn merry time in making things. Making things take longer is NOT an incentive to continue playing. Slashing the time and resource cost of the more expensive things will be of much greater effect.
We haven't updated GregTech because it will make people angry. But I have to look into that soon because we can't wait forever.
Updates will make people angry but if it helps the server out in the end...that's all that matters really. People need to realize that it's an MC server meaning that things will come and go and things will change that we really don't want them too. If you need to update something, just make a post saying this is what the update will include/take away and by not upgrading this will be the result A. B. and C.
It was more stable because people didn't have as much machinery as they do now. I thought disabling frame borers and enabling chunk loaders would've increased the TPS... So, people without an auto join script gets banned just for being on the server, and going to take a crap while the h4x0r just has a script that moves Steve from time to time? One of the things I love about this server is that we have no afk kick. This can also pose a problem to the Theater where you're not even moving. I'm not sure you know what the new Gregtech adds - a bunch of things as usual along with a new fusion reactor that costs almost 4x more than what it does now, and it produces around 1/4 of the power it does now.
Are you saying the 'endgame stuff' like Fusion Reactors is extremely cheap? I know a lot of people that would disagree.
Well it does... we can actually git 16-19 ticks/second now, whereas that was impossible before. However, it deteriorates over time. The other elephant in the room is Applied Energistics, which is not cheap to run. I'm actually surprised that it is expensive at all because I'm pretty sure that if I were to write it, it would use fairly little CPU, and yet still have all the features. Of course, I don't have time to write everything myself, otherwise we would have no problems at all and everything would be butter smooth. And every texture would be Eduardo. Well it also has upgrades, and one problem at the moment is that it takes forever. Energy is not a problem because I can just make something solar recipes cheaper and flood everyone with energy if we need.
My opinion is disable normal anchors and only keep Personal Anchors craftable. Lol, new reactor produces 64k eu/t if set up properly, and coils are cheaper.
I have never been on the server to feel how it plays at that performance in a very long time. The closest I ever get to that is when I'm the first one on after a restart That's nice.
The implication with the GT machine upgrades is that you will need less machines constantly running because the cycle time can be reduced with overclockers.
While this is a great addition, I don't think much people will tear down their existing automations just to overclock some of them.
maybe disable people pumping pearls into anchors, so that inactive players don't have their bases loaded...
Considering there are at max, about 10 people with a setup that large. I wouldn't say it would be a bad thing, i think it would definitely be an option if the person had the EU for it (or MJ)
