I saw the recent thread about what people have built on Alice, and I kinda felt bad because I have not built much at all. So I have decided to re make something I made a long time ago on another server. I think I can do it much better here due to microblocks. I had built i before with worldedit and it took me a few days, so doing it by hand is going to be a massive undertaking, considering I also want to double the size.

Here is what I want to build. The Flavian Amphitheater, A.K.A. The Colosseum. I do not mean A Colosseum, I mean THE Colosseum. I had built it before 1:1 scale and surprisingly it was a little... small. I built it as historically accurate as humanly possible, and I want to do that again, but double the size. The base structure was about 60k blocks, so I am probably looking at a 240k block structure, hence where the community part comes in.

The first thing I need to do is scout an area to build it. The rough dimensions are going to be about (exactly) 378 blocks long, 312 blocks wide, 100 blocks tall (not including the wooden pylons to support the canopies)

I am really good at building the base structure, I just have to decide what blocks to make it out of and procure them. I will need help building the base structure due to the size, but where I really need help is in the little details, by the time I get done with the structure I am too frazzled to deal with the details and I know there are people out there that are really good at the little things.

But before I even get started, the question is would there even be a use for such a structure? My old one was a PvP arena with spleef above it. What could it be put into use for on Alice?

If you have any ideas for its use, or would like to help construction if/when it is decided to start building, please leave a message in this thread.

How do you build to scale with Minecraft blocks? What's your measurement units? :p

Is 1 Minecraft block suppose to be equal to a real world unit of measure?

Since I block is supposed to equal 1m², that would be a yes :p

Yea, 1 block is a cubic meter. I was really surprised how small the Colosseum was when I built it to scale.

Well a possible 260k blocks kinda restricts materials. It would look amazing in iron, but that is unrealistic. 2.34 million iron? not gonna happen. Stone/cobble is too plain. I am thinking maybe sandstone or something along those lines. If it is going to be a community project then the community will most likely decide the materials it will be made of.

I agree with the idea, but just a bit of warning not to place to many micro blocks in a single chunk.. MC no likey

The only real reason for the micro blocks that I can think of is for the columns separating the arches along the outside of the Colosseum. There would not be too many in any given chunk in my design.

I've got about 2.5k iron blocks and I'm constantly producing them. I can start donating them for building material if you want them.

There's a large flatish space near the bazaar. If you run into claims we might be able to fudge things if the claim owners are inactive.
