So since we may be banning the redpower block breakers, I was wondering what the deal with the turtles are. Perhaps we could get turtles and use them as a "quarry"? But we need to get them the same day that the blockbreakers are banned.

My understanding was Turtles were disabled for their performance demands. I doubt anything has changed there.

They are disabled because of griefing by turtles not being logged correctly, and because of balance reasons. I'm not sure about their performance demands, though. Also, quarries will work correctly if frame bores can be disabled, so that can replace the automatic mining anyway.

Turtles were disabled because of griefing. But they can be enabled again. Because whenever a non-labeled turtle breaks a block, the name that shows up in the logs, is the name of the person who placed the turtle itself. I'm not 100% sure if it's the same with labeled-turtles, but i would expect that it would be the same.

Who elses name should it show? The name of the one who ran the program? Who pressed a button? Kinda difficult for a logging tool to do.

The people who write the APIs are not very creative (though I dare say that most people aren't), and they don't anticipate things like non-players (in this case, blocks) doing player-like things. There's just not the support there to handle these cases.

Turtles are largely disabled because they obsolete many other mods. Especially since we have FTP access, you can just upload some script file that you got from someone else, and you too, can have everything with little effort on your part. I'm OK with non-mining turtles being enabled, but I have to look into that.

Would it be possible to see some other turtles enabled?, such as the melee turtle or the XP turtle?

You said the exact same thing for OpenCCSensors. We can do the same thing with reactor designs, machine designs, etc. right now. Don't just think of noobs, think of the guys whos needs are beyond simple automations mods like AE and RP and who actually writes the scripts.

However, if you do disable mining turtles, I ask we keep wrench turtles as there is no workaround for that...

I would like to have some turtles enabled as I wanted to use some of them for mini games inside Minecraft like Direworld20 did on Forgecraft.
