I am genuinely curious. What uses for block breakers do you have? Because if you are using them for scrap generation you should be shot, because there are at minimum two other alternatives that do not cause as much of a performance hit as a block breaker for making scrap.
I would be happy for an alternative, I never thought of looking for one, and I'm pretty sure one block breaker isn't causing more stress than the issue we are discussing right now. Just through one out there, I would have no reason to argue my point.
As far as I know, that was added when porting the mod to bukkit(which is not needed anymore) and was never in vanilla redpower.
Gregtech Rockbreaker, Thermal Expansion Igneus Extruder. Both generate cobble passively. If your cobble gen array is only one breaker, then no. But basically Block Breakers are resource heavy and should be used sparingly, not for mass-tasks.
Its only one, I don't generate enough eu/t yet to require more, and if this fixes tick rates, I most likely won't need more than one... But I can easily switch if the solution requires it...
Not sure if this has been answered but, If we do fix the whole quarry deal can we PLEASE fix the GUI of MFSU's and what not
"challenging" is not the issue, no matter how challenging it is, I would rather have a frame quarry rather than a regular quarry. Quite simply it is either all or none. Making something more challenging just makes it end game, and makes "end game" all that much more powerful. No matter how challenging they are, that means that the better off people can have them and make them larger, bypassing the limits as they have been shown to do. It comes down to the fact of availability. You could make the power requirements exponentially more, but I would gladly pay that power for the speed.. You could make them exponentially more expensive, but I would gladly pay that price for speed. The issue here is the price it pays in server performance. I have tried to minimize that, but it still may not be enough. If it comes down to having my base loaded around the clock with world anchors, or easily gaining massive amounts of resources in a very short amount of time, I would rather have my base loaded. I could actually do more with my base constantly loaded then I can do with any frame bore. The frame bore gets the resources, my base being loaded does things with those resources. Doing things is more important to me then gaining things. This is another realization I have come to see regarding thaumcraft and the nodes. If we can have world anchors working, players will be able to create and enhance nodes, keeping them loaded and not have to worry about them vanishing. I believe SK regenerated the nodes recently, I got one node within the range of my base. It vanished withing 24 hours of me getting it back. If we had chunk loaders enabled then the nodes at our bases would never vanish. If it is an option between chunk loaders and frame bores, give me chunk loaders any day of the week.
but if its more challenging then less people would make it reducing stress on the server just like sk said earlier
Actually no. Most people that have played on the server since it restarted could easily bypass any energy or resource requirements needed for bores, no matter how extreme they are. And many could easily find ways to bypass the limit as well, as they have, to cause just as much stress on the server as they already have. You could basically make the recipe for them require 9 stacks of iridium reinforced tungsteel, for that matter you could make the recipe 9 stacks of iridium plates, and it would only take a matter of days until the stress on the server would be back to the point that it is. When it comes to frame bores it is either A. Have them, no matter what the cost in resources and on the server, and people will still make them as large and resource intensive as possible, or B. Ban them out right. I do not care how expensive they would be, I would rather have a frame bore than a quarry. Making them more expensive would only delay the effects on the server for a few days, and make the ores more expensive in the player market for the beginner players. No matter how expensive they are people will not give them up until they are banned out right.
I'm sorry michael I agree with nolan I've only been here for a month and already have enough resources to deal with any cost that you could possibly increase it to. Anyway why not just disable redstonetube frames? Also to whoever suggested the fuel turning chunk loaders off. With AE you can just supply them with more fuel automatically. Edit: Now that I think about it, SK maybe you should disable them automatically being refilled so that people cant just go AFK for days and days at a time..
Well I don't know about that. If I made each block breaker require 5,000 diamond ore blocks, I think that'd be far above anyone's willingness. I rather avoid that. You don't even need AE. Server restarts unload all chunks, and server restarts are fairly frequent, so it would not be an issue. -- I've actually seen a massive cobble factory made with RP2 on 1.4 (and by a friend too). It was terrible.
