A frame bore is a structure using RP2 frame's and block breakers. Frames are objects that can move adjacent blocks and frames as a whole using frame motors. The concept is useing frame machines to make an inchworm mechnicsm that breaks all blocks in front of it which funnel into a chest .
oh ok thanks for telling me i was planning on making something like that but i wanst sure on the name
Limiting the frame link size would be a poor solution. It would have to be reduced drastically to be effective, and that would disable frame machines that have no block breakers at all. Since a large portion of the lag is caused by block breaking directly, and the number of entities they can put in RP2 tube systems indirectly, it makes more sense to target them. Block breakers don't have to be on frames to cause lag.
I'm aware of alts. Still helps because server restarts sometimes, dropping alts off, and ppl are not sitting 24/7 on. Also there's a plugin that autokicks afk players after configurable amount of time.
I personally think that just limiting the size of Block breakers to maybe 16 X 16. I am in the prossese of building a 6 X 6 Block breaker miner and i have been collecting materials to make it all come together and make it in about a months time. Also i would love to see world anchors on and also would love to get less lag on the server without taking away all the fun Just what ever sk does i hoped it will good for the server
The AFK kick timer need not be set drastically low. Even once an hour would have a massive impact. It's quite common to see 10-20 AFK players on at any given time. Unless they are all grouped together, that many players could be keeping hundreds of chunks loaded. A generous AFK time limit would be sensible. Combined with chunk loading quarries and functional world/personal anchors, players could keep slow machines running without needing to AFK. In all probability fewer chunks would be loaded server-wide as well.
We should switch to ChickenBone's chunkloaders. You have far more control of what to keep loaded with them. If you have all your machines in a chunk or two you can keep just that loaded instead of 11x11 or 5x5 or whatever. Then again, most of the real TPS killers have bases that are larger than spawn, sooo..
RailCraft world anchors have the advantage of consuming fuel, so they shut themselves off if their owners go inactive.
Actually the dimensional anchors mod, has a config option to allow the use of fuel, some of which is way more costly than Railcraft's World Anchors.
Nice, it's been awhile since I looked at the mod. The fuel list looks good, but I'd rather not see stone and cobble as an option. Honestly, the more expensive the better, to keep players from spamming them, and try to cut down on refueling systems that run forever.
I believe adding block breakers to the restricted items list for frames could be one way to disable frame bores. SK probably has other ideas for the issue.
That would be semi-easy, but we use the official version of RP2 from eloraam, and she never put in a blacklist for block breakers, so it'd require us to make some modifications.
Not sure if it's available from the original version, but I've found several references to using a config file called "blockbreaker.blacklist" to limit what block breakers can break. If stone and cobble can not be broken, block breakers become useless for frame machines and cobble generators at the same time. Very funny.
Breakers are actually used for many things, scrap generation being one, and many other devices, disabling them for breaking a specific block, like stone, is better alternative, but implementing that is probably beyond the boundaries of viability... And to your comment I say the same thing... I never knew cobble generators were op or that we were even talking about them... Gregtech has already taken into account scrap generation with it's amplification rates...
Thats odd, I was under the impression that if not a black list there was at least an "allowed blocklist" somewhere to deal with the blocks from other mods. I asked around IRC and got a compendium, plethora, and potpourri of various answers. So what ever the solution is, it is not going to be as simple as previously assumed. Honestly I can think of a myriad of ways to fix the issue, but they all have their drawbacks. The only one that I can think of is to delete the frame motors in the mining world and block their placement. Everyone already knows the consequences for using a frame bore in the over world so it probably would not be an issue there. Then again why not implement that honor system in the mining world now. Everybody already knows that they are going to be removed. There could be an official announcement that frame bores are officially banned, and that the use of them anywhere has the same consequences as using them in the over world. SkCraft players, for the most part, have been a very honorable bunch of people who never want to break the rules. This could have the side effect of creating stress on staff though, and enforcement is an issue. But this could also relieve some of the stress on SK for a short time until he can properly resolve the issue. This is all just speculation and a bit of hyperbole I know, but hey, never hurts to throw an idea out there.
I heard about it too. In previous versions of Redpower, all you needed to do is add the line (same for limiting min intervals on timers). Not sure if that's in pr6 thou...
