I'm fine with having frame bores disabled, especially if chunk loaders and quarries will finally actually work well. The server's TPS is utter crap lately.
even if you do disable block breakers there are many machines that use them for things other than frame bores. 1 breaker per chunk is a bit steep (ps I'm joining late and probably have stated a point already brought up
While we're at it let's remove train craft; it's buggy and some (I'm being nice here) of the trains can't even be made.
As a fairly new player i can say that bores are good for getting started, and it would be very annoying for if they would be removed completely. So i suggest that they are limited to 100 block breakers.
You could just run 1 64x64 mining quarry, if chunk loaders became enabled you wouldn't need to stay by it. As new players ourselves at one time, we got a ton of resources that lasted us for a while.
I am one for removing frame bores. If people need to dig tunnels and gather resources, we will still have the less-laggy steve's carts and the Railcraft Tunnel Bores. People make these massive bores running on infinite redstone loops or a ton of timers. I was in the mining world and 2 massive, unattended bores started digging past me after I must have re-activated the chunk they were in.
The problem is massive. Seriously, the word "massive" how do we define massive? how big should a frame bore be as far as reasonable sizes? I do agree that people should not just let frame bores run though. Only turn it on when you need it. That line on the size limit is what needs to be drawn. Not removing them but restrict the unreasonable .
They are going to remove railcraft so ... I think the best options is limiting frame bores And quarries have to dig through alot of sirt and stone before they get to diamond layer
I like this idea. Block breakers are used for more than bores. And on the topic of enabling world anchors, people just AFK their alts at quarries, bores, and laggy bases. As far as I know, anchors use less resources than a player.
If i remember correctly there is an option in the RP config files to limit the number of frame-links/-blocks that will move together. The default value was 1000. If this number is cut down to maybe 50 it would only make tbmheads of 20 blocks possible. maybe even less. combining heads will be a hassle too, because it would limit the head size down to 5 maybe 10 if build very compact to store the power and controlling system. This would be an easy way to test what happens if the sizes of tbm were reduced heavily.
Well if your going to bring up the afk point then I must suggest that afk players get kicked after about 6min of idleness. As far as I'm concerned This will not hurt me as I rarely use alt's and when i log in 60% of the server is afk and it would solve the Quarrys/bores running endlessly problem.Also many a lag-tastic bases would be shut down. Its not elegant but it would solve the problem
You have to stay AFK though to keep BC quarries loaded and since World Anchors don't work you also need to stay AFK to run something like a Matter Fab, so unless World Anchors are enabled, this would be extremely annoying for those like myself trying to keep BC quarries loaded.
Railcraft is staying and getting better each patch. It's TrainCraft which is hopefully being removed. Many of the crashes and bugs I've experienced have been because of that mod. Totally different mod from Railcraft though.
Sk, if you decide to disable frame bore and enable chunkloading, I'd suggest to disable normal world anchor crafting (with deleting existing ones) and only allow private anchor version, so chunk are off when player is off. Also a restriction to quarries amount per player and/or max size of quarries. (To make less chunks loaded at once).
making it so only tbms with a 3x3 head would be possible, bringing in some resources but also not affecting the performance that badly. I, on a different server, ran a 3x3 bore and if left to go only while I am on it brought me lots of resources but didnt affect the server that badly
