Try enabling the UUM recipes on for size. We wouldn't even need to quarry if UU was worth anything...
Oh I do know frame borers do make a big impact, but there are other bits to this that are theoretical (chunk loaders, quarries, whatnot). A lot of people struggle getting enough UUM to make other intermediary items, so I imagine the number of people for which UUM would replace their regular mining activities would be a bit low. --- I might actually do a test run of disabling borers tonight.
The return on investment is almost instantaneous with bores. Even a small bore pays for itself in under an hour, and a large bore would do the same in a fraction of the time.
Pretty much everyone has UU these days, dude. Majority is the ones with max size frame quarries (yes, plural) that decimate land in search for bauxite to make more fusion reactors Take a look at who has the biggest bore/quarry. They probably have a fusion reactor and a matter fab with a load of UU. Sure, if you're just starting out, you won't be able to make items out of UU but then again, you probably don't have the resources to build an extravagent frame machine. tl;dr Think of it this way, the people who the UU recipes would affect probably have the hugest frame machines. Edit: Need a few examples? Try Optic, Neon, glitch, and buttons. Edit 2: If the above is still not enough to convince you, there's no reason to NOT enable it? Because it only affects a small amount of people isn't much of a reason to keep it disabled.
You'd be kidding yourself if you think I wasn't very well aware that disabling UUM would make people have to quarry.
Seems like such a relevant point to make, bro. I don't read minds, I play Minecraft. Besides, has that been considered? Better to enable them since you're disabling quarries. If useless UU makes people quarry, wouldn't useful UU not make/reduce people quarry? You'd disable quarries and reduce the fuss about it.
People still made frame borers back in Alice 1.2.5, and at that time, UUM was unrestricted, it was harder to do, and there was less of a need for it. Reduction isn't enough -- one frame borer is quite demanding already. I am willing to allow UUM for balance reasons, but performance benefits are pretty moot. Outright disabling frame borers is much more effective than trying to convince people to get materials via other ways.
Disrespectful? I'd refer you to everytime you'd chat with me in Minecraft. To make things even worse, I didn't need to even speak to you before you were like that. Why not do both? You'd reduce the need for quarries and at the sametime, reduce load on the server! But wait, I will take your post as convinced so I'm all done on that topic
Because BC3 quarries don't even register on server performance metrics (last I checked, especially on Alice 1.2.5). After frame borers, LogisticsPipes/Applied Energistics (particularly the latter now) win second place. Right now I actually don't plan on adjusting UUM recipes, unless GregTech has created undue pain once again.
This sounds more like an argument for enabling UUM recipies, rather than an argument for keeping them disabled... Just saying. I mean, if it's not going to be a route the average person chooses to travel to get resources, then why keep them disabled?
Enabling all the UUM recipes might not have a huge effect. On the other hand, I don't see the harm in enabling some of the ore recipes. If players want to waste UUM on things like copper or tin would that cause problems?
Well, I need to say this or it'll be bugging me. With enabling the UU recipes, there comes the potential for automating the making more and more things like fusion reactors while all you need to do is sit your ass back in the chair and discover there are dots on your ceiling.
So? For some the enjoyment is in the creation of highly complex and elaborate fabrication machines. For others it's mining. For others it's crafting and making stuff by hand. And some people enjoy building large buildings, with elaborate details, to which all the infrastructure, assembly, and base components are simply a means to an end, and not the end itself. So what if things can be automated still further?
I just thought I'd point it out for balance. Sure, people like different things but the line needs to be drawn at OP.
Very true, and true. Back on topic, will there be anything we can do with our spare block breakers we'll have? Perhaps a backcraft recipe?
