Your suggestion was just already asked You get to know who the mods are just by playing on the server. Plus this makes the chat more friendly.
I dislike that: yellow (player login/logout) light_blue (MapPad +plugin messages) grey (private messages) Are available on the random colour roster. I feel that they confuse and complicate chat. At first I was confused that moderators had no identifier, but I like it. It works. Also, I think that mods are harassed too often about social matters the simply don't require moderation. I'd volunteer for mods to direct some of the flak my way regarding matters that don't require their unique skill set. I quite enjoy teaching beginners and troubleshooting people's creations.
While I do agree that it's better that moderators do not have a specific color. I think what michelle mentioned, was nice. Like would be a nice idea for mods to only have a specific color when they are "on-duty" and then just have their names randomized when they are "off-duty". I've seen many a time where demenzia has been bugged so much when she has just wanted to play, it's obscene.
Mad I know you're watching this thread you should fix MC ♥ D'Varin I love the idea of getting rid of the yellow and the grey but not the blue...
