Is anyone still interested in arguing for multiple resources for backing the currency? If not I'm going to proceed under the assumption that only Quartz Ore will be used for exchanging currency. Now for some numbers. In the mining world it takes me about an hour to get 32 Quartz Ore with a silk touch drill. I'm not looking very hard so this number maybe higher for other people. At 100$k per ore that's 3200$k. Now assuming Quartz Ore still has it's(real?) trading value and we're just converting it to currency. Then hypothetically, I would put the following values on things based on what 32 Quartz would be worth to me. Please remember that over time as more people invest in $k, values will fluctuate and change. What I'm looking for is a good balance between mining time and quantity. Not necessarily the actual value, I'm just using it to get a feel for how it could be balanced. An exaggerated example would be if Quartz Ore exchanged for 10,000$k. How would those numbers look? Spoiler: Quartz Ore= 100$k Cobblestone= 1 Tin Ingot= 6 Coal= 22 Copper Ingot= 40 Iron Ingot= 12 Gold Ingot= 40 Steel Ingot= 42 Tungsten Ingot= 100 Diamond= 100 Ruby= 148 Sapphire= 100 Emerald- 800 Chrome Ingot- 800 Titanium Ingot- 512 Iridium- 800 Spoiler: Quartz Ore= 10000$k Cobblestone= 100 Tin Ingot= 600 Coal= 2200 Copper Ingot= 4000 Iron Ingot= 1200 Gold Ingot= 4000 Steel Ingot= 4200 Tungsten Ingot= 10000 Diamond= 10000 Ruby= 14800 Sapphire= 10000 Emerald- 80000 Chrome Ingot- 80000 Titanium Ingot- 51200 Iridium- 80000
I like 100 because 10000 makes being rich seem pointless.... I just dont see quartz being worth iridium and If I where a millionare I would want it to mean something..
Seeing as though we're still looking at using quartz ore as a value currency. I want to say. A while ago, when AE was first installed, people were scrounging for quartz (ore and crystal alike). But now, with having the mining world reset, and having proper generation of the quartz. I fear that the value of quartz is depreciating to little or nothing. Granted, it may not be one of the things you can't UU, but even so. It's still easier to get if someone uses a frame bore/quarry and then just mines the quartz that's exposed in the walls. But idk, i guess we can just see how it pans out. But that's just me 5 cents worth.
That why currency is wonderful! I can make a lot of iridium, so to me the value comes from what it is worth to other people. Right now I'm trading Iridium for Copper blocks, Emeralds, and Titanium. I would trade for other stuff like Olivine Ore, Coal, Nikolite, Plutonium, Uranium, and Thorium. But I have limited room in my shop. And and I would want more than a stack of Nikolite per Iridium. If you go by my example above, I could buy Nikolite from player for 6$k. This works out to a little over 2 stacks(134) to get the 800$k for an Iridium Ingot. What if that player didn't have 134 Nikolite. Say they only have 64 Nikolite. But wait, I'm also buying Diamonds for 100$k. Together the 64 Nikolite and 5 Diamonds are 884$k. Now the player has enough to buy an Iridium Ingot plus 84$k to use later. Also remember that when a player is selling a resource to me. I am giving them my currency, it is not being generated by the system. The system can only generate new currency when exchanging for Quartz Ore.
@Shadow This is why I'd love to hear other suggestions for generating or exchanging currency. You're right that it could be a problem if some one decides to exchange a huge amount of Quartz Ore into the system. It would cause inflation and the value of everyone's currency goes down.
No wrong a frame bore will not get the quartz ore you need to silk touch it for that. Edit: never mind im tired as **** and misread it sorry Neon bby :/
What if there was a way to use the Industrial Credits as a currency, exchange items or something for them, and use that as the means of a common currency?
Main problem with ICs is that their made from iron, which can be easily automated. Not to mention we can't craft it
@leo389 Using non-craftable unobtainable items could work if we could get a mod or SK to give those items to us. Maybe an NPC that acts as currency exchange. Unfortunately the mods want nothing to do with the moderation of the player economy. So, it's up to us to figure it out without their help. MadNess made a good post about it in the Fiat Money thread
On a server a few people of our group played on for a few weeks (same as buttons also, so he might remember). Had a money system . I don't exactly remember the mod....it might have been metallurgy but I'm not sure. But it had a block called a "mint". I don't exactly remember how it was operated, i think you could choose what was used ( might be configurable, but i'm not sure), and for specific items could give more coins by applying a redstone signal. But the created coins could be combined to make high levels of currency. It would be a nice idea, because it can be automated with turtles but no anyway else. It would be a great idea to have for an economy, but i doubt sk would agree to adding the mod just for that purpose.
There were two money item mods on that server. One was Metallurgy, which was stupid. The 'Mint' machine could automate exchanging cobblestone into coins. If you want to talk about inflation look no further. Any kind of automation that lets players print money their own money would quickly destroy any economy we tried to setup. The second one was GK's Rater's mod. I think it had 3 or 4 separate types of currency. Mobs and NPCs used a currency, there were arena coins, and donator's coins. It was kinda neat that it had many denominations. 9lvl1 coins = 1lvl2 coin, 9lvl2 coins = 1lvl3 coins and so on. I don't remember how many lvls it went up. If a mod like this was added to the server I would not have a problem with it. But again, these would be uncraftable, so a NPC would need to be setup to exchange the coins. So, it's still back to working with what we have. With the system that is being considered now. You can still use Quartz Ore as money/commodity outside of the digital system. So if you want to have fun(risk) carrying around all your money, go for it!
sapphires, ruby's and emeralds seam like an obvious choice for a physical item to be cashed in for credits i would say there about as common as quartz they could be worth: Ruby 10 Sapphires 5 Emeralds 1 credits respectfully i don't like the idea of heaving to have them in ore form cause that would throw a crazy demand on the already rare silk touch but i do see the point
and not to disrespect or say that we cant trust you but how can we know you or someone else involved in development of this system wont just manipulate the economy giving them self money and essential owning the economy on the server on top of that injecting to much money would cause the economy to crash and kill this bank system your trying to implement.
